Recolor/Dye Interior
Good idea?
I'm thinking of dying my seats fox red. The dye kit is ~$100 but I'm not sure what shop I would have do it for me? I'm in a sparkling graphite e90. I have black Dakota at the moment. Was thinking of doing red seats/door panels then painting the wood trim sparkling graphite. Any thoughts? |

if you are going to dye them red, i would look into the leatherique kit and make sure to prep the seats/panels really good. There is a really good DIY on e46fanatics by Neil where he did Cinnamon interior http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=725670

Where is that thread on the forums where the guy re-did his entire interior red. It looked a-m-a-z-i-n-g.

Thanks, I'd read over that thread before, he made me want to do it.
I'm picturing this: Although I want fox red because it isn't quite as loud. What I'm worried about is starting, then messing up something, and having to pay a LOT to fix my mistakes. Anyone have a armrest/door panel for sale? Need a test panel Last edited by Zernaff; 04-15-2015 at 05:34 PM.. |

Do you want my OEM arm rest? It's grey. I replaced it for a split armrest. Cover shipping and buy me a beer and I'll be happy to donate for your project.

To me it looks a tiny bit more brown than red.

Here's a comparison shot. The gray shining through doesn't help but it's getting redder I think. I've never seen fox red in person though but people say it's brownish.

So, not hard, took 2 days total, so far seems strong. I'm going to install it in my car for a long term test. Seats won't be as easy but with a sprayer they'd be much easier to dye. |

Thanks!
Definitely glad I had your armrest as a test panel or else I would never have attempted this. And, brownish red is good, because I have a sedan I don't think full on red would look right. |
