No increase until the M240i comes out with the B58 motor. (2017)

I still wouldn't look for a bump, if at all, given the M2 debut. With only 375-380 HP, there isn't a lot of room for the M235/240 to go up in power without coming too close to the M2.

Just my thoughts. Also, if BMW drops the M from the 240, I would look for a power decrease to bring it in line with the 3 and 4 series power ratings. That would present a greater gap between the normal 2 series and the M2 as well.

+1. hoppy6698. Reasonable assumptions. The manufacturer will certainly have a gap in performance between its standard model and performance offering.

All the 3 and 5 series are going to at least 320 hp with the new base 3 liter engine so it's not going to lose power. The competition is all going to 320-340 hp even the new Jag so the new 40 designation even at the base level will be minimum 320 vs the current 300hp. I think the M240 will be 340 hp, the 1M basically was the same as the 135is which is basically like comparing the M240 with M2.
The X4 is supposed to offer a new M Performance X40 this fall, the X4 with the N55 is way underpowered and just finished in last place in a Motor Trend comparison so we will probably know the new hp of the M Performance 40 engine within 4-5 months max.
