News from COTA on M2
Not sure if this info is already out, but received a text from a friend attending the MotoGP heard from a BMW source on the M2:
Production starts Oct 2015 Limited global production run to 10,000 units No CF roof Variant of S55 engine There were some more details on the source's experience with the car, but can't really comment at this point.

Yeah there's no way it'll be 10000, it's such an in between number.
If it's limited production it'll be really low numbers, if they make 10000 they may as well make as many as they can! |

But it does make sense to limit production and generate even more interest in order to drive up pricing.

Interesting - there have been rumors lately of an unofficial limited run effect - aka, BMW artificially keeps the number of M2s low on purpose.
Perhaps there's not a ton of profit in it for some reason, like where they have decided to place the price point?? EDIT - I also don't believe that the M2 will get a detuned S55. Why give us the heart of the M3/4 but no CF roof and hood bulge? The latter two seem easier to offer without any sort of "threat" to the bigger Ms. If you can get a version of the S55 in an M2, people will figure out how to extract all the extra goodness...

I'm calling BS on all of it.
Production starts 11/15 and that's official from BMW AG. There is no limited production run. We shall see on the powerplant and roof. |

I was at MotoGP today, in the Paddock Club, met the Head of M Division for North America (didn't catch his name...), no discussion on the M2, but (obviously) had nothing but great things to say about the M235i :P

Hope it is not limited production...I do not do the "will you please sell me the car with a markup, sir" thing very well. Agree that 10K units would be a strange number for a "limited production." I bet BMW will want to see as many f these as it can. The 1 M was not planned out and was a kind of experiment. Neither is true for the M2.

Just as atxlos suggested, M Division head of North America was there for the VIP experience and the conversation was with him.

Would be lovely to get the speculation out of the away.
Waiting with baited breath. Still hope for a cf roof I won't lie. Also, S55 variant does kinda make sense. Won't be full ball S55, but possibly S55 bottom end etc running a large single turbo instead of the twin of the S55?! Say n54 vs n55. I just hope the car pulls all the way to redline or near to. |

If this proves out (S55), that sure would be sweet! But what about that front mount intercooler on the test mules? S55 block with FMIC instead of the water-to-air intercooler?

Thought BMW already said it will have a N55 from the get go, this is going to be a cut down M car and not a full fat one from the way things are going, but then you only get what you pay for

There are already documents that show start of production, along with all the other cars due this summer. That to me is way more reliable than I heard from this guy that heard from this guy that said the M2 will have this engine. My 2 cents |

I really need to know if this will have the S55, CF roof and bonnet bulge asap. If it does I'm prepared for it to replace my mint E46 m3. Otherwise I feel it just wont be as 'special'
