Question about front grill

Today is first day with new car. Hadn't noticed prior to today that the front grill does not have vertical slats -- just a smoky shield of some kind. Looks fine but I'm wondering if anyone has modified this with a grill that has slats. Anyone else noticed this or thought about a mod?

Everything on the fron of the car is done for aerodynamics. And for cooling the motor and the engine. I wouldn't fuss with it.
