Packages for Australia

I would like to get some feedback if the following packages would be suitable in Australia, as I have only ordered the comfort package for my new M235i

ConnectedDrive Freedom- (Concierge Services, Real Time Traffic Information, Remote Services, ConnectedDrive Services)

Visibility Package- (only thing that is not already standard is the adaptive headlights, so is there any point adding this)

If I have stated anything wrong please correct me

Thanks in advance

ConnectedDrive is a joke at the moment, for some reason BMW has locked all the features so you can only use them whilst the handbrake is on ~ I guess if you're willing to part with 1k so you can send Google co-ordinates to your car then it's ok, but still... Spotify completely shuts down and is unusable while driving, same as pandora, m lap timer, sms and basically everything that it says you can do on the website. So talk to your dealer properly about it all first.

I'm sure the visibility package is standard on the m235i in oz.. Remind me again what that includes?

The visibility package has the auto folding exterior mirrors with anti dazzle and parking function and high beam assist as well as the adaptive headlights you mentioned.

Haven't used the high beam assist, but the folding exterior mirrors and parking function are pretty useful.

With connective drive freedom, the only thing I use is the live traffic, which sometimes can divert you if you are navigating somewhere. The apps and weather/news etc is too slow on the 3G at the moment. I got the package as a promotion but Prob wouldn't buy it separately.

Comfort package prob the most useful!

I got the connected drive freedom as part of the January promo. After using it a bit, like im_dave, I wouldn't purchase it separately. Here is my experience in using ConnectedDrive in Australia.

ConnectedApps: Looked super promising but not being able to do anything while driving renders that pretty much useless. I am not concerned if they disable that divert all of you attention away from the road, however they disabled glancable information as well. An example is using Spotify, once you are "driving" (handbrake down, least in my car) the screen goes blank. So you are unable to skip songs via i drive, see what song is on , or any album art. By contrast iTunes music works as well as spotify through Bluetooth but with less functionality.

Remote Services: Sending commands to the car is super slow, takes about 45 secs to get to the car and action. Since it can't start the car remotely , the remote ventilation trigger isn't super useful. The best part of this is being able to send locations to your nav. Its far easier to search on your phone and send to your car than it is to search in your car. Alternatively you probably get the Conceige service to send it to your car.

Internet/News/Weather: The 3G is super slow. The internet blocks (or doesn't support) streaming videos (i.e. youtube) and functionality is missing from their browser.

Other Connected Drive Services: I haven't used the other services that haven't been mentioned above. I assume concierge services might be useful if you travel or are in a large city.

Agree with all connected drive is pretty useless. Not sure if it's just me, but I have to plug phone into the USB to get anything to work.

Visibility Pack is pretty useful if you do alot of night driving.

Do you guys sometimes get 'data not available' for the weather and news?

And the internet speed is almost unusable for most of the time I try it.

The remote services as mentioned is good only for sending locations to your inbox and then using the nav off that. It takes ages for the flashing lights to work and even the car locator. I have a feeling it sends data through to Germany and then back to Aus which causes a massive delay.

Haven't tried the concierge thing yet. Was tempted to ring them to ask them why the f... is the internet so slow?!!!

Thanks for all the feedback. I think the general consensus is that ConnectedDrive is not worth getting in Australia.

Does anyone know what the price of the Visibility Package should be?
And I am a bit confused what your actually paying for in the Vis Pack
As the Bi-Xenon headlights are standard and my info says Cornering lights function deleted for M235i

I think the visibility package is standard on the 235, but you'll have to ask your dealer

I would get the digits radio over connected drive, if I could go back, I'd do that

Prices for the visibility package are

$1,091 (Excl GST Excl LCT) or $1,200 (Inc GST Excl LCT) or $1,560 (Inc GST Incl LCT)

For the 228i and M235i.

For the 220i and 220d its a bit more cause they don't come with Bi-Xenons.

The visibility is an option for all models.

Visibility package is not standard.

Cornering function is when your fog light comes on when you turn - the M235 does not have fog lights hence deleted.

So with the visibility package you get all things listed above - adaptive headlights (headlights move - not the same as cornering function), mirror function (folding mirrors with parking function), and high beam assist (which is a button on the indicator stalk).

According to my old quote, the visibility package Z1E is $1091.

That's true they have a good option in every package. Then again so many options are standard here it's not that bad.

Spot on slingy...thanks for the heads up
My dealer did the Vis Pack for $1000 (Excl GST Excl LCT) so $1500 all up

damm Government taxes are such a rip off.....how many time do they want to tax the same dollar
income tax + 10% GST + LCT....think that leaves us about 30 cents from every dollar
