HD radio artist/song info for 2012 w/nav

I got a ride to work from the dealer this morning in a 2015 X5 and that car showed album art and song info on the display. Unless I just haven't figured it out, my car doesn't have the album art capability and getting the song info requires a few clicks and can't be made the default.

Is this software upgradable? Or is it a feature of the newer models?

Thanks
Pete

I think this is a feature of the NBT iDrive. Those of us with CIC (prior to 2014 MY) don't have the capability.

For CIC, you need the enhanced Bluetooth option to show album art.

But only if you're connected via USB on CIC. I have a '13/CIC w/extended BT, and get album art from my iPhone on USB, but not on HD Radio. That feature only works on NBT.

Ok thanks. Certainly isn't a necessity, just thought it was cool. The thing that really puzzles me is why the RDS/HD song info isn't the default display for radio. I guess they realized that and fixed it for NBT...

First make sure it isn't disabled:
In the Radio menu, Press Option > Scroll Down and ensure HD Radio Reception is checked.

Then just tune to the normal frequency for instance 98.7. After a second or so it will switch over to HD and you will see an indicator at the top.

IF the station is broadcasting in HD, that's true. Generally in bigger markets, most FM's (and some AM's) do. Smaller markets, not so much. Go to www.hdradio.com for a guide.
