Screwed after lease turn in
I wonder if this has happened to anyone else.
I went to Prestige BMW, traded in my 335IS They assessed the damage to the car, and we made a deal on a new M4. A month later I get a bill from BMW for $1250! I negotiated turning my car in- to be able to walk away. I specifically asked my salesperson- "Am I completely out my old lease once I pay the $2800" ( part of the deal for the M4) Yes sir. Like a total schmuck I did not get this in writing. Anyone else have something like this happen?

I've never had anything like that happen at my dealer but I've seen it with others at other luxury dealers. Even though you didn't get it in writing I'm sure if you call them and show you're pissed off you can get rid of that bill. Good luck!

I think the staff here just suck more than anywhere else. We're getting the Cali cast offs.

I've had it happen both ways, where once I turned a car into a random BMW dealer (got a $528 bill from BMWFS) and then a second time I turned it to a dealer where I was leasing another car and they made good on the verbal agreement to waive an end of lease charges (ie. mileage overages).
You could call BMW FS and ask to see the report and what was chargeable and discuss that with them, and speak with your sales person to see if they can help you to get BMW FS to waive the charges. |

Umm.. wrong forum? Prestige BMW is here in NJ. You are posting the the NW forum.
EDIT: although I guess this isn't a region specific issue... Last edited by Wah; 03-13-2015 at 06:16 PM.. |

Thanks NW guys......
I hope to have this resolved today. To complicate matters a little, my car is at the dealership. I was already scheduled for my 1200 mile service- so I will wait till I pick up my car this evening before pursuing a resolution,

Actually something very similar happened to me, except the amount was only about $300. I forwarded the bill to BMW Seattle, who apologized profusely and cut a check to close out the bill the next day.
Did you discuss the surprise bill with the dealership? I suspect at the time that the new car deal is done they don't actually have a clean mechanism to cover these kind of costs, hence the surprise.

My guess is you didn't trade in the car but you turned it in. The dealership then "gave up" the car to BMW who relies on the dealership to inspect the car for any excessive wear and/or damages. If you agreed on the terms that you're walking away from the car free an clear then your dealership owes you money. Is this just for over mileage or is it for excessive wear?

There was a bit of body damage ( small dent on the hood) and the rear ash tray cover in the back seat was broken....I was 10k under mileage....They inspected the car, and made a big deal that I had non run flats on the car. I hesitated on the turning the car in and they agreed that I would not have to pay for tires.
I even made sure that they were aware of all the damage before making the deal- and they inspected the car.....hopefully this is all a paperwork error on their part- but it rally sucks to have this sort of thing mixed in with what should be an pleasurable experience.

The big question is, what is the dealerships position now? Are they recanting on the deal?

Good luck man. Same thing happened to moonsault on here. He turned it in and got a bill the next month for about the same amount as you I think. Maybe even more. When he brought it back they said don't worry about it and they'll eat whatever it was as his m4 was due in soon. Needless to say bmwfs gave him a bs bill for almost a couple thousand. He was like wtf. Ended up having to sue them in small claims court.
