How Much Power Is a Walnut Blast Worth? [Dyno graphs inside]
Hi Guys, one of my first of many posts here on E90 post. I picked up a 07 335i after developing an indescribable need to play with one of these cars! Such value, refinement, performance, and all-around driving experience with these cars.
I have a dynojet 424x and I was very excited to get some data to share with the community. I was able to get PRE and POST walnut blast dyno runs on a bone stock car with 120k. This car was particularly bad and there was severe amounts of airflow being sacrificed. The car is 100% stock, 6 speed Manual. Only changes between runs was a thorough walnut blasting and OEM plug change (the current plugs only had 10k miles on them but I decided to change them while it was apart. If you notice, the baseline numbers were low, and sure enough, the intakes were terrible. Post-blast, the numbers were on-par with a stock car Pics below of dyno runs and intake port pics. The car is looking to be very healthy and I am looking forward to stepping up to much bigger power in the near future. I will be getting some goodies from my friend Jake @ MOTIV that will help achieve BIG numbers! Any questions about the numbers and cleaning just ask! Over 54whp was freed up at 6,640 rpm!!! Peak gains were 23 whp and 19.6 wtq. This is before and after with stock mapping. On the Cobb Stage 1 map with a little tweaking via AccessTuner, I saw 40whp at 6,700 rpm and peak gains of 20.25 whp and 16.4 wtq. The extra boost seems to push past the carbon a little better, but the gains are still undeniable. This is before and after with the Stage 1+ a little tweaking. I get it now, I wasn't sure about your angle at first! I was HOPING that the BMW scene was a little smoother than the Subaru scene

Great results! This also helps to answer my question about whether engines lose power over time. Assuming they're in decent condition it seems like they don't suffer too much with age / mileage? Mine has done 92,000 miles and is stock - it had new turbos and injectors at 60,000. Hopefully it still produces around 300 hp and lb/ft at the crank before I install a Cobb.

I think I just may do it since I'm not sure if it was ever done in the first place, plus I see people doing it for like $200-$300 which seems reasonable.
