Coding
Thinking of doing some custom coding. Anyone else interested in getting together and having a go?

I've coded a bunch of stuff on my wife's 228i, no problems at all...
Based mainly off info from the Coding forum. This video is a useful reference for the process too : |

nice! what features are you getting? was thinking about:
- auto mirror folding - 5 blinks instead of 3 when signalling - automatic close windows and sunroof when rain is detected - auto-start-stop by default off - disable iDrive startup disclaimer - disable backup camera disclaimer - display tyre pressure and temp - AC fan always off on startup - digital speed display |

Was thinking of going to my dealer and asking for the last user mode setting...

- auto-start-stop by default off - disable iDrive startup disclaimer - disable backup camera disclaimer - display tyre temp (pressure was there by default) - digital speed display - changed iDrive startup Logo - disabled seatbelt reminder/alarms - enabled video through USB port & video formats - altered the ASD sound to the N55 engine - enabled phone own ringtone - enabled GPS sync for clock there's probably one or two I missed as well.. |

Now with the active sound set to the N55B30 engine, from the inside my wife's 228i sounds exactly like an M235i - it's great fun, makes me LOL every time she floors it when in Sport mode... |

Though I am an IT Security geek and have done a lot of coding on my VAG cars (including my current S3), so I'm probably not the best person to comment! However, I found actually doing it was much easier than it seemed in the video and the how-to guides. |

The only issues would be if the dealer updates the firmware on a controller during a service you any coding would have to be redone, and if you wanted to undo or change any coding that would be a pain. It's not too difficult to do, and comparatively quite cheap - just need to buy the cable and a token. |
