Taking delivery at Performance Delivery Center -- too late?

I'm thinking about taking delivery in SC at the Performance Delivery Center (or whatever it's called). My car will go on a boat in a few days -- so that's where I'm at in the process.

My CA says I can't do that because he can't change the delivery route of my car this late in the game.

Does that sound right to you? Seems like I should be able to change something like this when it won't even hit our shores for two weeks, at least.

Any experience with someone scheduling a PDC close to time of arrival in US?

My understanding is that the cars are loaded in a specific order to allow for unloading at each port. So this sounds right to me.

Don't overthink this. Get your i8 and enjoy the hell out of it.

I could be mistaken about this since I've never taken delivery at the PDC, but my understanding is that one doesn't actually drive your own car there, but rather a company owned car of the same model. If that is the case, I'm somewhat doubtful they would have I8's sitting around for someone to drive.

I'm ordering an X3 for my son and the dealer asked if we had an interest in picking it up at the PDC in SC since he is in school in NC and the car is made in Spartanburg, SC...however, the program uses company vehicles for PDC i thought

Good news, you can't do PDC delivery of an i8 (at least you haven't been able to since launch, unless something changed recently) so no reason to worry about trying to get it changed.

That's good to know. I didn't really want to go to the PDC until I was told I couldn't.

Now that I can't take delivery of an i8 at the PDC under any circumstances, I'm back to not having wanted to in the first place.

You can now do a PDC, however they do not have i3 or i8 model cars for the track. They offer you any other model of the bmw line up. They recommend any of the m series for the most fun on the track. The PDC includes a complete introduction to you vehicle (including the i8), classroom time teaching fundamentals, passenger seat track time with a drift driver, off road course, and track time in a vehicle of your choosing.

You get complimentary hotel for one night, dinner, and breakfast but have to pay for your travel to the hotel. They big thing here is either driving your car from the PDC to your house or getting it trucked because if you don't take delivery specifically at the PDC the cost for the program is $1,500 to take it after delivery.....I'll take free.

I've been confirmed for PDC after my vehicle delivery in June.

I assumed that one could drive one's new car -- even an i8 -- on the track. So you HAVE to drive one of their cars? Why not the car you're taking delivery on? That's what I'd want to drive, anyway.

I could understand it from either perspective. First, It would be nice to track my own car especially under the supervision of the people who made it. Secondly however, I'm not too keen on taking my brand new car to the track right away. I think its the second perspective that the PDC follows, allowing you to beat on someone else's car (that normally would be the same as yours) thereby getting all of the fun without any of the possible track issues for your own vehicle.

To each their own, I'm just happy to get the car either way.

For anyone that has not experienced a PDC, it's an exceptional experience, even if they don't have i8's to drive. The entire staff is extremely friendly & the instructors are absolutely top notch. Visiting the X5 factory is also a thrill. Highly recommended!

need some help

Okay I need some help here. I just received confirmation of delivery to the performance delivery center. I'm worried that after a full day from 8am to 3pm at the PDC I may be too tired for the long drive back home in my new car. I figure I may stay an extra night but now I would have to leave my new car at one of these local hotels....thoughts?

anyone already do a PDC? what did you do?

Is the PDC day that exhaustive that I should be worried?

I've stayed an extra night in the past, and the hotel they use is quite safe and you can probably even arrange for a dedicated spot.

Came up behind this baller the other night and my girlfriend didn't seem to understand why I was laughing my ass off. Told her to buckle up and be quiet, I gotta time my NOS perfectly. I figured you guys would appreciate this guy's not-so-subtle reference.

The performance delivery center now has an i8 to use on their race track as part of their delivery experience.

Have to say i was actually excited to use one of their m3 or 4s instead. Especially after hearing about the low reviews of i8 on the track. Oh well, its someone elses i8 to beat on, cant be that bad.

seems like it really only about just giving you the vehicle and them making as big a deal as possible. Here is what is offered state side:

Driving Experience

What is a BMW really capable of? During this segment you will spend time behind the wheel of a BMW that is similar to the one you purchased. You will drive a BMW on one of our many courses to experience the handling capabilities and discover why it is called the Ultimate Driving Machine. You will also learn why BMW’s have been known for having the best braking systems as we push the ABS brakes to their limits! We will then show-
case the advantages of our DSC system (Dynamic Stability Control) on one of our skid pads.

BMW Factory Tour / Zentrum Museum & xDrive Course

Have you ever wondered what it feels like to be on two wheels? Now, you will get the chance to explore our Other Roads Course in a BMW SAV. You will leave the Performance Center amazed at their off-road capabili-
ties! During this segment, you will also have the chance to tour BMW Manufacturing (when public tours are available) and visit the Zentrum (BMW’s museum located at the BMW factory).

Vehicle Delivery

It would not be the Ultimate Delivery Experience if we did not teach you how to operate your new BMW. During this segment a BMW Product Specialist will demonstrate and explain everything there is to know about the op-
erations of your new BMW, making sure you feel confident with the controls when you leave.

Lunch will be served from 12:00 - 1:00pm at our Performance Center Café. You can expect to be on the road in your

new BMW no later than 3:00pm.

I've had my i8 for 6 months and just bought an M4 two+ weeks ago. The i8 is a symphony and the M4 is a rock band. You're going to love the difference.

I'll be picking up my i8 up just a couple days before you and they sent me an email that they now have an i8 to use for the drive experience.
