more Power or more Handling
Got my brakes and oil change today and was getting an alignment as well. I had saved up for a new fmic and have enough to get a vrsf 7inch. Was informed they couldn't do the alignment due to bad control arms. so now it's either ///M control arms or an fmic.....hmmm ...what do you think. Keep in mind I know I must change the arms soon. But who can resist more go.

Power and "m" control arms. 95% of the people here have gone full bolt on before even touching the stock suspension.
But you need your car to handle the power, I also have the "m" control arms and the car is much better! |

control arms, because you will feel the difference everytime you drive. fmic will only improve engine power at high rpm and sustained/repeated pulls.

Fmic is more of a power mod only in terms of consistency in power. TRW control arms (M3 control arms), hands down, as it will be the more noticeable than a fmic.

What would the install run you on this upgrade? I have only done Dinan Springs which I love but this sounds like a must do as well.

If it is just a the front control arms. It would be $200-300 max from a non-rip-off shop, plus alignment. Also, what proofs do your shop have for the bad control arms? Is it bent or are the bushings shot? There are so many incompetent alignment shops out there, I wouldn't trust what they say unless they point out exactly why they can't get it to specs.

Are you sure you took it to a shop that knows what their doing? I've had plenty of shops tell me oh your suspension is messed up, or you can't adjust camber on the rear in BMWs, etc etc. Took it to RRT, and they aligned it perfectly within seconds.
I was at merchants/NTB fuckers could not get it aligned and equal on both sides, they were willing to sit there and waste 30 minutes BSing with me instead of fixing the issue in one second. I ignored the guy went under the lift, had one of their guys look at the alignment machine, adjusted the bolts, done and left. This was after my third time coming back in the shop. The must have spent over 2 hours on the lift just wasting my time. Best was the guy was aligning for a 2007 E46 non sports sedan even when I told him from the start it's a 2007 335i coupe with the sports package. WHERE DID YOU SEE THESE TWO EXTRA DOORS BRO. I swear some of these fucks must be on acid while their working. Our cars are getting fairly cheap and alot of the people that used to convince you to take it to a quality shop have moved on, or shit test a dense mofo before your give him you car. There's no reason an old bmw can't handle like it did when it was brand new or even better than it handled when it was new. Last edited by 07chupacabra; 03-03-2015 at 08:05 AM.. |

I did the front M3 (TRW) control arms, along with Koni struts and new upper strut mounts as my first mod when I bought my E90 last year (the oem front struts were shot - 75k miles).
With just these pieces, there is a SLIGHT improvement in road feel, turn-in and front end grip, but not all that much (you'll get about 0.7˚ neg camber from the M3 lower arms). In addition to the front M3 pieces, I would recommend getting rid of the locating pin at the top of the strut mounts and bolting the strut tops as far in as you can go for a little extra negative camber. Yes, it'll be better than before, but if you still have all the standard REAR bushings, your handling will still be crap. The key to getting the E9X to handle is to get rid of all the sloppy rear bushings, especially the rear subframe bushings. It's a big job, but I finally just got all the rear suspension changed over to M3 pieces - control arms, sway bars, subframe bushings, Megan toe arms, Koni shocks - and now I'm very happy with the way the car goes around corners. No more squishy rear end! Still needs a LSD tho. And then... more power! -Austin |
