Carbon Ceramic Brakes - Wheel clearances issue - Stone lodging
Team:
F80 with CCB fitted. Have had 2 issues with stone trapping on fronts. 1st at 300 miles caused a 1/4 revolution damage to Rim. 2nd at 1900 miles caused a complete 360 deg groove in rim both adjacent to caliiper. BMW Master Techncian wrote off the rim today due to depth (2mm) of the groove and relatively thin wall of rim in this areaa £1082 replacement! Anyone else had this issue? In any case Caliper has minor damage only, but clearly this is a design issue as normal road debris cannot exit the proximity. Clearly a move to 20" Rims are needed to get clearance. Car is a weekender and very cared for and never took on gravel roads. This happended during normal every day driving. If this happens a third time 20" solution will be ordered. Feedback appreciated...... Otherwise......Car is fantastic, MPE will be ordered soon! Last edited by Geordie33; 02-27-2015 at 12:00 PM.. |

I had a stone lodged also and that ruined the wheel, I can't believe we can't claim the wheel from BMW?
Also, after 6 months of driving from new, my carbon breaks on one of the wheels started squeecking like hell, my eardrums may burst Anyone had this problem? |

so some folks have claimed from the dealer and I'd be pushing for that as its clearly a design flaw. I just had the CCB retrofitted and am going 20s so won't have this issue but have been concerned whilst I wait for the new wheels.
Cheers, Neil.
