Unknown Songs from iPhone

I use my iPhone for tunes hooked up with the cable to the car. Lately I search for an artist or playlist and when I hit Play on iDrive nothing happens. Times when it does work, getting back in the car after shutting off and disconnecting the iPhone, it hangs again.

It shows maybe the number of tunes but everything says "unknown". I can start play by hitting the iPhone directly and then sometimes the artist and song show up, other times nothing, but it still plays.

Thought it might be the cable from leaving it plugged in with the console closed, but a swap and still the same thing. Any ideas?

I found that mine does that on occasion (both iPhone 5s and 6 either via cable or EBT). I've only ever had IOS 8+ since owning my car, so I can't compared to previous IOS versions. Some have said it's an IOS compatibility issue. The recent update didn't fix the issue.

If I close my apps and reboot my phone, it fixes the problem. Have not been able to pin point what causes it.

iOS 8 has a number of problems and this could be one of them. Try resetting your iPhone as mentioned above.

Crap, this happened to me today. iPhone 6 plugged into USB. It shows up as an external device as expected. I can browse the music on the device and select an album. But it just doesn't play. iDrive just sits there doing nothing. Connected apps work. I switched over to my iPod connected to the snap-in port and music works fine. I blame iOS8...the worst OS ever to come from Apple. I'll do a phone reset and try again later.

All this stuff works perfectly on iOS 7 and earlier.
Numerous threads on the apple forums but no fix.

Ever see the thread on iOS8 Wifi connectivity on the Apple forums?? Thousands of posts...still no real fix yet. I'm holding at 8.1.0 because I managed to get wifi to work reliably with a combination of changing my access point hardware and messing with settings.
