225/40 18 265/35 18 xdrive

Just want to know if its possible for me to run 225/40 18 fronts and 265/35 18 rears on an xdrive 335. I believe the rolling diameter is under 1% but just want to make sure. Has anyone tried this setup?

I run this currently for my winter setup. Works ok, no codes or faults but I would recommend against it. I do get some driveline surging and I think it is due to the front tires being smaller diameter than the rear. Stick with a stock like setup with front larger than the rear but within 1%.

I also have a larger rear (235/35/19, 275/30/19), my overall diameter difference is 0.6%, but I swear my car is a little more tail happy than it should be and I swear this is why. I will be changing next time to the factory recommended 225/35/19, 255/30/19, when I fit my new black ch-rs with new super sports, in the process restoring the front bias AND further reducing the difference (0.4%).

235/35 and 275/30 19s are almost exactly the same size. Way less than 0.6%. Actual difference is 0.08%. I would actually consider that to be the ideal size.

It's mostly high speed with the cruise control on. It may just be the snow tires but I had the same setup on my rwd 335 and never had an issue.

Driveline surge feels like the car speeds up and then holds itself back over and over. It is very subtle. Some people would probably never notice.

You're right. I suppose that's what you get for believing what you read without questioning it.

The stagger charts are obviously wrong then. I'll go post in the thread...

OK, worth mentioning that different tires are different. lol.

I've seen evidence that some tires have as much as 0.6% difference and others in this size have literally zero difference (DWS and RE026 respectively), so it really comes down to the tire.

I think 265/35R18 requires at least 9" wheel width.
