ABR Stroker Engine Build

Anyone follow Advanced BMW Repair on facebook? They are building stroker engines and the one they just finished was stroked with a stage 3 ported head among other goodies headed to Vargas.

Think Alex said he picks up about .2L when stroking it. I don't really see the point of a stroked 54 (not like it lacks for torque) but since it's relatively "easy" to do with everything pulled apart, I guess why not.

3.2l eh? The more displacement the better

What would be the practical benefit of stroking out an N54? I don't see it as a motor that would really benefit from it....An S65 or 85? Sure.

If it's as simple as "it's badass, adds some displacement, and is easy to do if you have the bottom end apart", that's certainly a good enough answer for me

At the end of the day more displacement means more potential power as there is more space to make the combustion. Assuming the VE is the same a larger displacement motor will usually make more power.

Granted if you max out displacement but are not able to rev high that is not good. The goal of a high hp engine is usually max displacement and max rpm and then fit the best power adder to it(usually turbo).

Look at the gtr guys. They don't max out displacement for revs and reliability. But all high HP builds are above the stock displacement. But they don't max out the engine displacement either.

What is holding the N54 back from crazy power is revs now the PI is available off the shelf. It limits the turbo options available as there is not enough revs to spin up larger turbos. To rev up a larger turbo with only 3L of displacement means you need revs or more displacement or both.
