OT Rant: petrol stations that are mini supermarkets
You know those places where folk buy fuel and then leave their car at the pump whilst they do half a weekly shop
If you're just going for fuel then you have to queue because half the pumps are filled with shoppers and then You have to queue whilst they pay!

Had a right go at some bloke last year at local one, he did it in reverse parked at pumps, went in shop, did shopping, put 15 quid in tank, then back to shop to pay for it. I blew up. Those places are a nightmare!!!! |

Local one to me is like that I fill up get a trolley browse around the store and then when I come to pay I'll reach in my holdall and try to find my wallet and my points card that won't scan. It's only a matter of time before we have pay@pump and f** off facilities but until then we'll just have to put up with this I suppose and avoid Sunday evenings and lunchtimes.

You mean you actually put that supermarket urine in your car?!
I only use ultimate, so when I go to fill up it's to a business that specializes in fuel and not fruit and veg, hence I don't suffer from this 1st world problem you describe. |

Wouldn't be so bad if folk moved theirs cars from the pumps before shopping, and they left a cashier just for simple fuel transactions.

My favourite game at a petrol station is to drive past someone who's waiting behind a car at the pump, to get to the free pump ahead of that car. It's as if some people can't figure out the space between bays of pumps is so wide in big stations specifically so you can get through to the pump in front and speed things up.
Also a lot of people seem to have no idea at all about what soace their car can so easily get through.. And it's correct to overtake these inept, ponderous, bewildered morons. Because they are exactly the same people that would hold you up by spending 20 minutes browsing the food isles when they get inside. Don't get me started on people that take longer than the socially acceptable 6 seconds from getting back in their car to driving away from the pump. If it takes you longer than that to enter a car and drive off then Christ knows how long it will take you to wake up and react in an emergency. Last edited by movietub; 02-12-2015 at 04:38 PM.. |

With you all the way on this gripe.
Our local BP has gone over to M&S, doubling the time it takes to get fuel. Remember when filling stations only sold car-related merchandise (and gentlemens' mags) ? You could get oil, bulbs, spark plugs fan belts and that strange herbal mixture that you put in your radiator to stem a leak, but not bleedin' croissants and avocados! |

I understand that for many petrol stations the only viable way to stay open is to sell all this other stuff, and it is handy at times.
It's really just how they design the forecourt layouts and appropriately serve the customers if groceries start to dominate. Though what is with Shell and always trying to flog you giant bars of chocolate for a pound at the till.... Ive never in many years of using my local one ever bought the chocolate yet the guy still asks me every single time!

The original petrol forecourt is tight and often log jammed with cars furling waiting to fuel and waiting to pay. So what do they do, shoe horn a mini mart on the area and do not change the parking footprint. |

My BP station has a Spar and recently they took in the local post office. I hate the place with a passion. It also has a tiny forecourt with no parking other than at the pumps. |

I quite enjoy using the "pay at the pump" and then leaving my car there whilst I go inside anyway and do a shop. Seems to really irritate people.

Trouble is people will get pi55ed off queuing and go elsewhere so the garage could lose trade!

Oddly, I think some people worry that they will look like they are trying to drive off without paying if they move their car before they have paid. A simple sign (in big writing with short words!) that says "If doing shopping please move car to spaces away from pumps before going in to pay" could help alleviate this. Not sure if that would discourage shoppers though.

Well after paying for fuel recently, I come out of the shop to find this girl in a old car behind me asking for help. Southern Irish accent, young & telling me that she had run out of fuel and was trying get to a local hospital to visit a sick relative.Have you got any money for fuel mister ? Yes , muggins here gave her a tenner.....
On a side note I've just ordered a M235....but then backed by 328 into the side of the garage the other day. Sadly new bumper needed.

You got fleeced for a tenner and then drove your car into your own garage wall?? This is not the makings of a good day! At least you've ordered a car with an engine to match the badge this time |
