Startup
In cool weather on startup, my 2008 335i (N55) needs a bit of throttle to start up. Cool weather in Fulshear is 40 degF. None of my other fuel injected cars has ever required this. Is something wrong, or is this normal for a N55? It acts more like it has a carburetor rather than fuel injection. Otherwise the car is 100% normal and runs great.

This could be so many things, HPFP, LPFP, Injectors, Plugs, Coils, Clogged Filter, the list goes on.

What do you mean it needs a bit of throttle? You hit the accelerator while you cold start your car? What happens if you don't hit the accelerator?

Cold Startup
Well, engine sounds like if I don't hit the throttle that it will just keep on cranking until the battery expires. I will try it again tomorrow morning and verify. With all of the other FI cars I own, I would not have to het the throttle at all to start the engine.
The car is out of warranty with 58000 miles. Every thing else works perfectly. |

Sounds to me like a leaky injector.

Startup continued
Sorry, don't know where my head is. My car is a 2011 BMW 335i with the N55 motor. I have owned it since new (ED). Last winter when it was still in warranty, I started getting long cranks but it would still start and the dealer was not able to find anything wrong. When the weather got warmer, the phenomenon went away, so I thought, why pay BMW money to chase after the issue when the issue was gone. Now my warranty is gone as well and the long cranks have returned. I have never seen the dreaded half motor and the car has always eventually started. This morning was a very long crank. I thought it would not start, but eventually it did. This afternoon it cranked fine. What's up? I will not be buying a new M3 if BMW hoses me on this one.
