Drivetrain Fault

Anyone had "Drivetrain Fault" appear on their dash? Came up this evening on way home from work, straight after starring the engine. Wouldn't let me select gear so cycled ignition power and all was well second time around. Drove home without any issues. Booked in with dealer though next week for a check up.

There's a guy on the general forum who had this in the US, not good news for him...

However I used to get this occasionally on my X5 and used to use the old IT trick of switch off switch on and it was fine! But mine happened whilst driving and never effected gear selection.

I had it while I was driving; it told me to drive moderately, but then it cleared itself.

My Dealer couldn't look at it for over a week. They then said there were no faults showing on the car, and said all they could suggest was keeping it for an 'overnight road test'. I pointed out that as it hadn't recurred in over a week, I didn't see much point in leaving my car with them for a technician to use that evening, particularly when they had no courtesy cars available.

They suggested that if it happened again I should leave the engine running with the light on and call BMW Assist, so that they could see the problem. I thought that was the whole point of storing the vehicle history on the key! Not the sort of treatment I hoped for from a 'premium' franchise.

I've read a few posts on the US forums about people having similar issues, mainly 550i owners though. I'm hoping it's just a one off!

That's shit! Hopefully it's just a one off which won't come back.

Sorted today under warranty, apparently an intermittent lambda sensor fault. Sensor replaced. Let's hope that's it rectified for good.

Wow!!!
Sorry to hear it. It means perhaps F series are not as reliable as E series were.
