So I've just ordered myself a JB4 for my car... I've read through the 30 page install PDF from Burger Tuning...

I'm just curious if there are any tips for a smooth install?

Any tips or tricks for a smooth install would be appreciated...

I just did this. Best advice is to take your time. I found it easier when I pulled the ecu all the way out and then do all sub connectors slide it back in halfway and put the small ecu connector on first and then the large. And pay attention to the color coding outlined in the pdf from bms.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to triple check the colors of each connection.

I plan on taking a much time as I could possibly need with this... I also bought the BMS DCI with the JB4 too... which I'll install before I put all the covers back on, I've heard it's much easier that way....

Is there a special 1st Start-up Procedure that I should follow? I've been reading some horror stories about first start-ups...

Patience is key. No need to rush your first install. Just take your time and go through the steps. After you have done it a few times it literally becomes a 15-20 minute task.

Pay attention to the details and orientation of plugs, that's the best tip I can offer as people are often quick to plug something in without paying attention to the details of orientation. Other then that just follow the guide.

After you pull out the OE male power wire pin from green connector and are ready to plug it into the JB4 female pin, do it gently by wiggling it slowly or you could sheer off the male OE pin from the OE power wire. This will result in an inoperable car until you can get a replacement pin from Terry and you'll need to splice/crimp after the delay. Just a bit of a PIA it's best to avoid the issue altogether by being gentle on that step...

installation is really easy. Just pay attention to how to plugs are in the ecu.

Ps. Dont just follow the video guide as they skip a crucial step. The PDF and the video combined will def help you out though.

open hood leave open disconnect battery don't close trunk connect jb4 then connect battery again

took me 30 mins first time then 15 mins second time very easy

Well it went it without ay problems... Except getting that plastic tray that the cabin filter sits on back on... that was a bit of pain in the @$$, and I somehow lost two of the 6 screws that hold the cabin filter down...(gotta get new bolts from somewhere)

The traction control doesn't like it too much, but my god does this thing just pull! It's nearly as fun, if not more, as my STi was for sure....

Took the car for a ride and let the DSC and Drivetrain codes reset themselves, and once the car warmed up, I hammered the pedal and it put an instant smile on my face... Is freakin awesome to say the least.

Some mornings I end up seeing a guy in a C-Class AMG and sometimes I line up with him and everytime he would pull a car or two on me from a stop.... but not this time... this time I pulled nearly 3 or 4 cars on him... he pulled up next to me at the next light and said "damn man! I thought for sure I had that in the bag again! Wha'd you do to it?!"

Probably the first cool AMG driver I've ever met in my life...

I still need to put the BMS DCI on, which I believe I might take care of this weekend... I would have put it in last night, but it got a little late and the tiny space heater in the garage just wasn't cutting it anymore....

Just wait until you get some e85 in the tank. If you haven't already get a BT cable and do the BMS backend flash.

I think I'm happy with what I've got so far...

Only thing I'm not too happy with is the Transmission Shifting... it feels harsh and odd sometimes... I have to find someone to do the Alpina trans coding for me, I think that will smooth things out a bit....
