Aftermarket Oil Temperature gauge for 328i?
Hey Guys!
A while ago ive asked about my car(2009 328i) not having an oil temperature gauge and learned that i can check if my oil is up to temp by checking the oil level thingy. But i find it really annoying to have to navigate through my dash to get to it while driving. Is there any type of aftermarket Oil temperature gauge i can install? and if there is where do you guys think i should install it for the best cosmetic look? Thanks for the help!!! |

There are several different 52mm oil temp gauges you could install but the problem is there isn't a good spot to put any gauges in our cars. You have a 328 anyway I wouldn't even be worried.

Many people buy an OBD II BT dongle and run the BMWhat or Torque app on their phone; mount it somewhere generally to the left above the light switch.

Unfortunatly the e90 has no oil temp or preasure
Unfortunately the e90 has no oil temp or pressure
Sensor so an OBD dongle wouldn't help however they are pretty cool for other things. No Sensor = No Data http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1088407 I have one and the temperature I can get is water temp. |

Well there is no data to my elm module from obd
Well there is no data to my elm module from obd
for oil temp or pressure, the only thing I get is water temp . My Indy says no pressure sensor for the 328. I know the 335 can get oil temp and I think boost over OBD. The 328 and 335 senors are different. Last edited by ctuna; 02-07-2015 at 01:29 AM.. |

There has to be an oil pressure sensor, or the engine would grenade by not letting the driver know the oil pump stopped making pressure. I've never heard of a car in the last 80 years not having an low oil pressure light to warn the driver of a loss in oil pressure. Your Indy must have meant to say oil temperature sensor. And here's proof.

Sorry I didn't mean to sound like a jerk. I just wanted to let others know that BMW's do have these sensors. As for the oil temp sensor, it is located in the oil level and quality sensor living in the oil pan.
As for where to gather these readings, that are all processed in the DME. Sorry again if i sounded snarky. |

Its a switch it has two states on and off.

It doesn't return any data like pressure readings. It says either good or bad that is not what a gauge does a gauge must return values in calibrated units. I understand the 328 coupe has an oil temperature sensor but not the 4 door. Last edited by ctuna; 02-07-2015 at 04:49 PM.. |

I have an elm 327 and torque
I have an elm 327 and torque on a my 325 the only temp parameter
it gives me is coolant temp . There is no data for oil temp or pressure. And I think its because it doesn't have oil pressure sensor that returns values. Anybody have and experience with other apps returning any other data on oil? I asked my Indy he says there is no sensor for returning oil pressure values in the 325/328. 335's have more sensors . |

Because 328s have a purrrfect cooling system... in my experience all e9xs need both an oil temp gauge and a coolant temp gauge.. these cars have the absolute worst coolant systems of any car I can think of.. thankfully f3x/f8xs are much better in this depart.
