Its more likely the torque coverter unlock then locking for the throttle request. The higher the throttle the faster it makes the switch to give you more immediate power, where under lower throttle if you are doing this its still trying to accomplish a smooth shift but doing it the way you are isnt exactly the ideal use for the paddle shifters.

Is your car stock? I really doubt your tranny is slipping unless you're well over 400whp.

I think OP meant speed goes up while revs go down in same gear

I'm stock. its weird cuz this started happening after i flashed to alpina then back to OEM flash. what i mean by slip is that i would try to shift gear (push down shifter knob or pull paddle), instead of the revs holding then backing down, the rpm would raise a bit then come down.

torque converter stays locked after you pull away from standstill. so it is not that.

this has to do with the clutches not engaging correctly due to low atf pressure from a bad internal seal or a bad solenoid.

overlap control works like this (from bmw):
Overlap control provides gentle shift characteristics as follows: With overlap control, several multi-plate clutches are in use at the same time. Here, pressure is reduced in the active multi-plate clutch and at the same time built up in the clutch that is about to be activated. The reduction and build-up of pressure is maintained until a synchronised speed is reached. At this point, the hydraulic pressure for the multi-plate clutch to be activated can be built up completely. Overlap control is active for all gearshifts from 1st to 6th gear and from 6th to 1st gear.

have you been into INPA and checked a module called EGS, that where you will find tranny codes.

there should be 4f85, 4f80, 4f82, 4f8something codes. ratio mismatch

anyway if this gets worse, expect a red dash light and it to lock into 3rd gear until you restart it. this is normal when it detects a bad slip.

if it continues you will want to start thinking about replacing the solenoids and the seals. (not just the mechatronic seal but several inside). the transmission is savable. if it gets worse don't ignore.

my thread about chasing down my problem.... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1055457

another thread that followed.... http://5series.net/forums/diy-do-you...thread-137584/

if it gets worse, fix it before the transmission is damaged.

The automatic transmission in my 2011 E90 335i has been having some jarring clunks primarily in stop'n'go traffic. When going from 3-2 it will clunk and even lurch a little, and do the same when going from 2-3.
The oddest feeling is when I sometimes come to a stop, there will be a lurch as if it wants to keep going even though I have already completely stopped.

Anyway, it's at the dealership and they've confirmed the odd shifting. Next up is to reset the TCU and see if the problem goes away. Haven't heard back yet and it's been a couple days.

Thing is, it's always smooth under strong acceleration. And the lurches don't happen all the time in start and stop traffic, only occasionally.

im not there yet^ it stop smoothly for me. i think the lurch after stop is definitely a warning sign. keep me updated on what dealer says! haha

also. mike, i dont have any warning signs on the dash so wouldn't that mean if i went into the EGS module, there wouldn't be anything there either :/

my tranny did the same thing ( rpm rise when shifting) when i changed my driving habits,,ie changed from aggressive sarts to slow starts, after several days it ADAPTED to the new style and worked great

The best way to fix this is to remove the transmission and put in a manual tranny. Not a quick, easy or cheap fix but it's the right way to do it.

yea and keep removing it to install new clutches. brilliant idea.

i think i will stick to changing out some solenoids and seals once every 200,000 miles.

hmmm i did reset adaptations when i went from alpina back to stock. I did the accelerator reset. i didn't even think the reset worked haha. so you just took it easy for a few days and it stopped doing the slipping - if its even called slipping

hahaha has anyone on the forums even done the swap from auto to manual?

You must be a poor stick shift driver if you need to keep replacing clutches. Stock is fine FBO 335i, though it would be dumb to install a stocker when the IS clutch is the same price and better, or go Spec Stage 2 or something else.

Leave the auto's for drag cars, trucks and the ladies.

try resetting the battery. I think it helps. I used to get a slam in stop and go traffic. I think mainly downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear. Now it's a lot better.
