Need help pls: Retrofit Z4 front seats ?
Hello to the E90 post community, I'm a newbie in bimmers. I join the community in 2014 just to read abt bimmer (always wanted one )but finally I purchase last fall a 2006 325i sedan with sport package. I would like to know if I can ''retrofit'' (if its the correct word that your using for that) my 2 front heated non-electric front seats with a pair of 2007 heated z4 electric seats ?
Thank you in advance for your help. Last edited by Gung Ho; 02-05-2015 at 09:31 AM.. Reason: made a mistake with the model |

Just my own personal opinion. I had a Z4 and I just think that they were so uncomfortable to the seats in both my e92 - mind you I have had Dakota Leather Sport Seats in both cars. The z4 seats were hard, small, didn't offer as much support as e92 sport seats.

I see... I really appreciate your point of view, Im looking to change my front seats cause the driver seat is ripped (cheap fake leatherette..), and they're non-electric... Its pretty rare here in montreal to find sport seat, since I got the car im looking so far nothing... thx for tour advice !!!

I have a Z4 with non sport seats and personally I don't think they are all that bad. Certainly not as supportive for spirited driving as sport seats but comfortable for cruising and aren't as prone to side bolster wear since the side bolsters are...well... non existent. Not sure about how easy it is to install into your E90 but seem to remember somebody putting E92 seats into their Z. Try looking over on Zpost for the thread.

Just get a nice set of used sport seats off the forum. You can get heated if you look around. Then it will just bolt in. If you convert to heated seats you will have to retrofit the switches and prob do coding.

The 2007 Z4 and the 2006 E90 are completely different floor pans (the Z4 is an E46), so I doubt the Z4 seats will work with the E90. I have both cars. I checked on realOEM.com to see if the P/N for the Z4 seats are used on any of the E90 variations and they are not. They'll retrofit to an E46 but not an E90. But if you have enough money anything is possible.

Also, what's the deal with no knee pad in the E9x platform?? I'm getting a bruise on my right knee! I prefer a very "open" driving stance, and would appreciate some padding on the right. Regardless, as others have said, it's a different pattern between the Z and E9x, and it would be best to go with E9x seats... Good luck! |

Just get your e90 seats repaired. The side bolster wearing and cracking/ripping is a known problem with those seats. Should be able to accomplish that for much less money/effort than swapping both seats.
Also, manual seats are lighter and more adjustable. But I get it if you have multiple drivers its kind of a pain. e90 sport seats are some of the best. My 2006 had them and my 2011 doesn't. It annoys me every day. |
