Smoke out tail lights/headlights?
Should I smoke out my headlights or tail lights on my e90 dark grey 328i? I was going to do the tail lights, but should i do the headlights too?
What are your opinions on it? Let me know! Thanks! (The pictures of my car are in the links!) http://prntscr.com/615hkq http://prntscr.com/615ibm http://prntscr.com/615jf3 |

No. It's unsafe and IMHO doesn't look good.

If anything the tail lights only, but im not the biggest fan of smoked lights on a bimmer. I tinted my e90 xi tails all red instead, clean look. At the end up to you, i would just do tails.

Do whatever you want really, just know that if you tint the tails and someone rear ends you it may be your fault. You would have to be mentally deficient to tint the headlight though.

Alright yeah that's what I was thinking. I already made an appointment and they said it would cost a $100 for the 2 taillights.. do you know how much I should smoke them out?

Asked for opinions but you already made your mind up. It looks tacky on any car.

But I was planning on customizing my car and I don't know if the stock tail lights would look nice. All I'm asking if for other people's opinions. |

There is something called blackline tail lights that look really good. Its a little darker than OEM but not ridiculously ghetto-fab. And if I'm not mistaken, its about $150 each side, so its not terrible...

I would not go darker than 35% tint on them. You can do 20 perhaps, but 35% will give it a smoky look only. Also all red looks nice, ooor blacklines are pretty cool too.

Tinting tail lights is like painting stock wheels, looks cheap and ghetto imo.
It's that "i'm bored and want to do something cheap to my car to make it look different" type thing. |

I have the film cut outs to tint them for 35% if you are interested, i never used it on mine, i ended up going with all read on mine. Also $100 seems rather expensive for just 2 tail lights. Why not buy the VHT can and do it yourself if you are going that route?

that's true a $100 seems like a lot, but maybe if i tell him i'm only doing 35% it'll be like around $50

use the search button. this has been discussed.
anyway, I think it looks good. pay the 100 and have it done professionally so you don't have a bmw that looks like shit. or just leave it and buy some taillights that are already smoked. in the end its your car. do whatever you want. but please use the search button before posting threads like this. |

If you're getting tint professionally applied, you can always remove it. Also, 25% is darker than 35%. The percentage refers to how much light the tint allows through, not how much it blocks. Everyone (including me) posted their opinions, but if you decide to go through with it, just please analyze it afterward for safety, and like I said, 25% is darker than 35%.
Alternatively, you can buy lens-tint spray-paint-like-stuff that you can spray yourself and adjust to whatever darkness you desire. This can be removed with mineral spirits if you go too dark, and then try again.
