Yes and the dealers will do it one time free of charge to the original owner at the time of delivery.

The dealer will definitely code it out for you one time free of charge.
It does not have to be at the time of delivery from what I understand.

Are we talking F32? I didn't know the E92 had an engine cutout feature. If so, I'd like to know!

It looks like BMW had the Auto Start-Stop feature in certain E series manual transmission cars in the UK long before it came to the U.S. It might be only in 4cyl's and diesel's but I'm not 100% certain.

Loaner F30 328 I had last year had this "feature". It was an auto trans. Stop and restart the engine at every red light. I found it highly annoying. I'm sure it would be even more so on a manual.
You could disable it, but it would always default back on a restart. The dealer did say it could be coded out. Good thing, because I would never own a car that did this. |

Start stop is the worst idea for a non hybrid vehicle here you would die of heat stroke at every red light in the summer

There' temperature conditions that have to be met in order for auto start/stop feature to activate. Also those vehicles equipped with that feature act in part as hybrids. Battery is not charging all the time butmostly when the vehicle is braking. t

I already have issues with my battery not charging enough. I plug in a battery charger regularly to keep it topped up and avoid problems, even in summer.
I can't imagine how much worse it would be with the battery not charging at all when the car is standing still while still powering all the electrical load and then throwing in constant restarts as well. I can't see anything good coming of that. A way bigger alternator might make up for it, but would probably kill any fuel savings along the way. |
