iDrive, iOS 8.1.3 and Media = NOT...
I have an iPhone 5s with iOS 8.1.3...I have discovered -- much to my disappointment -- that the iDrive no longer controls my iPhone / iTunes music through the USB Connection.
In testing this further I discovered that iDrive had no problem controlling my iPod Nano (7th Generation) / iTunes music through the USB Connection. That said, I would appreciation comments / confirmation that: 1. This is a known problem and not unique to my car/iPhone; 2. This is an Apple problem that occurred with one or more of their recent software updates [i.e. I want to know whether to look to Apple or BMW for a solution]; and 3. What, if any, workarounds exist other than starting iTunes on the phone and then connecting the iPhone to the USM cable. Thx. |

I have noticed that iPod controls from iDrive is more finicky with later iOS builds.
Specifically, when you play non-iPod audio (like from the YouTube app) you will lose all iPod controls and visibility from iDrive. As if iDrive will only see and try to control what is currently playing. Since iDrive cant control other apps like YouTube, it goes into la-la land. The only fix that works for me is to either start a track from the iPod app or kill whatever app is taking over audio. This was less of a problem in earlier iOS builds, but now its more noticeable. BMW will not help since iOS 8 is not a supported OS.

I have a 6 and have stuck with iOS 8.1. They have pushed out one crap release after another and haven't addressed any of the major problems. I would only upgrade if you absolutely have to.

Mine still works fine. Now and then I need to reboot my iPhone, but it still works.

I've had issues as well with the later versions of iOS8 and USB control. One of the things that I've noticed that causes an issue is when I'm listening to playlists with a large amount of songs (100+). Unfortunately, this pretty much describes every playlist that I have. The iPhone6 will just randomly disappear from the external device list and stop playing. The only way to remedy the situation is to restart the iPhone and the car completely.
However, I've noticed something strange and good....ever since I updated to 8.1.3 last week, I haven't noticed the problems. This could be complete coincidence, but all weekend, the phone didn't just randomly stop playing and need to be reset. So far, so good, but I'll update if it changes for me.
