two issues with car that i can't figure out
Hi all, looking for help to figure out a couple of issues with my car, which is a 2011 323i (Canadian version) with 53K KMs.
1. My driver side door lock has gotten stuck a couple of times. first time was when I could not unlock the driver side door with my remote control. I had to climb into another door (which was unlocked) and manually pull the lever. Second time was when I had parked my car and tried to get out by pulling on the lever to open my locked driver side door, the lever got stuck a little bit and I had to use more force to get it open. 2. There is always this light squeak coming out of the right rare side of my car when I first start driving. It only happens at low speeds and goes away after I hit the break hard. thanks in advance for any ideas that you may have. |

I'll take a stab at these problems.
Was it below zero outside when your car door were not opening,if so the actuators may have froze?lubricate locking mechanism and report back,if it's not it you door actuators may be on there way out(DIY is in here so just search) As for the squeaky brakes, this can be almost normal and if it goes away not a big deal just an annoyance....however this may be a couple problems, cheap pads/rotors most likely or your brake may be worn...but it also could be that the brakes weren't lubricated well enough on sliders or the shims as that may cause excessive brake noise. Also check for brake heat shield that may be bent and scraping....unlikely but also another possibility. |

The squeak is you're e-brake/dust shield. The e-brake makes the squeal because it's lightly on before you hit 15mph after a stop (hill-start assist?) If you bend the dust shield back it will stop. Or put grease on it for a temporary fix.
I removed my dust shield - no more squeal. It's a common issue. there's a DIY on here for greasing the dust shield. TEST if this is your problem, with car off, in neutral, put e-brake on and try to push it. You should hear the noise. |

Help for problem #1. This is for the rear doors but it might help anyway.
