Steering issue?
I am having a steering issue with my 2015 228i xdrive. It seems to have no center straight ahead direction but wanders off to the left or the right if I don’t make constant small adjustments to make it track straight. The dealer did an alignment which did not help. The head mechanics noticed the issue and said they would contact BMW. Now they are telling me that this is a characteristic of 2 series steering because they noticed it on another 228i. Has anyone else noticed this “characteristic” in their car?

^ this.
I realized it too. I hate the electronic steering so much. Try getting an alignment at an independent shop and have them let you sit in the driver seat and adjust the steering wheel to what you think is straight and have them tighten the toe |

I had this same issue on my IS350 a couple years ago. It was most obvious when following a bend on the highway. They replaced the power steering rack and it resolved the issue.
I have not experienced this on my M235i yet. |

If it were the electric steering everyone would be experiencing it and that's not the case. I had a steering problem with a 2004 Z4 that wouldn't track straight with constant adjustments. Found out after two years of driving there was a recall out for it but they would only tell you if you went to the dealership and bitched about it. I think it was the power steering pump but with electric steering and only one or two other people complaining it could be many things. Never experienced it on my M235 or X1 sdrive with electric steering.

Could be interaction between tire tread and road surface. I live in the main truck route in and out of the Port of Oakland and have experienced this wandering motion when in the lanes most used by big rigs. They seem to wear rut in the surface that don't match up with the track on cars and knight truck very well. Can't say I've noticed it in my M235i yet but I've only had it a few days.
