Opinions: Extended trip..take the 335 or no?

Here's the dilemma: I'm on an extended business trip (again) but this time it's not inconceivable to drive my 335. The company provides a rental, but unlike most locations I have to go to, this place keeps giving me crap cars, which is a shame since the backroads around here are awesome. My boss has agreed to offset some of the operating costs since he wouldn't have to be paying for a rental, so it sounds like a win-win: he saves money, and I'm happier driving my own car.
The downside is: typically in the course of the day I have to make several really short trips, which isn't really good for it. But I'm thinking it's better than just sitting in the garage at home. The SO drives it maybe once every two weeks "it's way stiffer than the X1...I don't like it".
So do I fly back and get it or just suck it up in rental hell for the next 9 months or so?
Input would be appreciated.
Thanks

Cars are meant to be driven. BMWs love to be taken out of the garage.
I wouldn't even have come here to ask.

Mine was bought to be a daily driver. It is rocking snow tires and is parked in the driveway (boat and wife's car get the garage...wife requires a spot for her car and nothing kicks our Malibu out of its spot).

Drive the car.

Life is short, you could be gone tomorrow in the blink of an eye. Drive your car and be happy! I do errands for my boss all the time, and I could just take a company car, but it's more fun to use mine!

Drive to rental, more fun to beat on other peoples cars.....save the 335 for more epic journeys...but on the other hand you may miss the turbo power real fast.....I dunno either way works.....decide by coin toss(heads-rental,tails 335 a spooling)
Good luck!

I always get a company car or a rental if I have to do a road trip for work. It's not often that I have to leave my office but when I do I rather be putting miles on someone else dime and car. Why put miles on my car when I can tear up someone else's and let them deal with maintenance and repair.

Because you're being paid to do so. So free fun.

Take the car only if your gut is saying to do it.

Why in the hell would I drive my own BMW when I could just take the bus? Its so much easier for someone else to drive me than me have to shift gears for my self. While were at it might as well de-register our cars. Who wants to pay for insurance, gas, toll and maintenance anyway?

The fastest cars in the world are rental cars.

Seriously I would take the rental no matter now low trim/model, keeps the BMW fresh and when you finally get back into your BMW you enjoy it again that much more.

Exactly and your Gas prices are so cheap you can all run 3.5 turbo's as dailys. I know what i would do.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to go retrieve it at the end of the month once the worst of winter is over. Living in Texas, no winter tires, and i'm in the Northeast now. I was pretty much 75% of the way there when I posted, but just wanted some outside opinions. Guess its time to get the V1 firmware update.
And no, I don't coddle the car when driving it.

I cannot understand threads like these

I drive my car everywhere- whether it's to the store, or to New Hampshire- it really doesn't matter.

It's a car... it's meant to be driven.

Insert "pussies" for "pansies" is more like it......I don't get this mindset either.

True some people around here are ridiculous about their cars , its like they think they are driving a ferrari or something when its just a 3 series. Having said that most of us enjoy driving our cars no matter the weather or distance.

Op's case is a bit different though because this is for work. I would probably take the rental instead of taking my own car just because the mileage the car will be collecting and the maintenance cost it may cost me to the ran the car ( 335's are not the most reliable cars out there, bmw in general). I don't think his boss would cover the maintenance cost. Rentals are really easy , you can beat on them and if they break they just give you a new one

If I was given the choice I would take the rental , but if I was not given the choice then for sure I ll take my BMW.

To the OP, you will now be operating your vehicle for business rather than personal use, this is something you may want to consider.
