First Track Day with the F80

Finished my first track day with the F80 at Roebling Road in Savannah, GA. The car was pretty awesome, the first session out I had already beat my fastest time in my E92 M3 by 3 seconds. All in all I think it is a great car for the track, very planted, predictable, and easy to handle. Does anyone know if it is possible to get anymore camber out of the stock suspension?

A Few observations...

1) OEM tires suck, the PSS' are ill equipped to deal with all the torque this car has. My front left tire didn't even last the entire day.

2) For tracks with fast sweeping corners the stock seat and seatbelt are unable to hold you in place.

3) Stock spring rates need some help, lot of body roll

Woww, those the rear or front tires? I hope they are the rears as the wear are inwards.

How was the pitch forward under braking?

TIA.

Damn! Impressive wear for 1 track day!!! I'm on track day 3 with oem pss. When they grease up, about 15 min into the session, I let off before they start chunking.

I'll most likely be keeping the stock suspension and slotting the top mounts for some more camber.

Front tires probably. Camber plates are out now (turner?) for passive suspension only. Hopefully m-adapt plates out soon.

Agree on the seat, but do you know how to lock yourself in with the 3 point belt? Helped me a lot, but still flare my knees on turns some. I where knee sleeves when in the M4 on the track. Ironic that my body feels more beat up after a track day in the M4 than a day in my E36 track car.

Thanks for the report.

both pictures are of the front left... its chunked all the way around.

The pitch forward is pretty bad, Turn 1 of Roebling I'm braking from 150 down to 85-90 to make the turn and the back end gets pretty squirrely

I think that kind of chunking is due to overheating tires, I am not sure how related this is to camber, they are too far off the outside edge and there does not seem to be chunking on the edges.

Those tires are destroyed, you should've felt them way before getting to that point. Stock PSS never been that good anyways.

Unfortunately, Roebling will do that to tires. You are almost always turning, and the tires don't get much chance to cool. I finished off a nearly new set of Nitto NT01s on my E36 there this weekend. I still love the track though. At least it isn't hard on brakes...

Were you at the Hooked on Driving event or Flat Out?

I only drive FlatOut.

Sorry, had to do that.

I used to instruct for HOD, but since I've given that up, I thought I would try some other groups.

Once all the dirt and what not was removed the full extent of the damage was kinda shocking.

Have you taken any temps or pressures of the tires after your sessions?

TIA.

What pressures were you running? That tyre looks to have been way under inflated and was rolling over far too much. You were lucky you didn't have a serious issue whilst on the track IMHO.

What is scary is that you allowed the tires to wear down that far. You need to keep a close eye on your tires after each session, checking them for wear and pressure (I also regularly check my lug torques). Basic safety precautions you should consider for your next event.

I did a 3 day event back in the fall and also experienced melting and chunking of the outer (softer compound) thread blocks on my PSS. But, by managing my pace, I was able to limit the damage and can still use my tires on the street.

I check them after every session, pressure and temps, using the on board sensor and a handheld gage... this is all just one tire, the rest look fine and this one wasnt all chewed up until after my 5th session (didnt drive 6th).
