Interested in CPO E92 335is

Hi all,

I've been toying with the idea of getting a CPO e92 335is, and I was wondering what to expect in terms of reliability. Specifically, given that the 335is uses a N54 engine variant, is it also plagued with the dreaded HPFP problem (and is it a problem across the model years)? Also, how reliable is the DCT, or would I be better off with a manual? I note that a manual 335is seems to hard to come by (only found one so far).

Thanks so much and I really appreciate your feedback!

I'd get the manual over the DCT, especially if you like mt cars.

My 2013 is close to 2 years old now and it has had only a broken cup holder. DCT has never disappointed.

As previously mentioned, HPFP and wastegates are covered. BMWs can be expensive to own - even the consumables are expensive. Great car but you will enjoy it more if you go into it with your eyes (and maybe wallet) open.

Zero issues here, I have low miles but so far so good. I was also a manual guy before I tried DCT, no regrets at all.

Zero issues with my DCT so far. No HPFP failure either but I did have the fuel injectors replaced under warranty.

DCT has proven to be pretty reliable... look at all the M3s and not too many issues...

but, if you really like driving a manual, DCT WILL get boring. I drove an e92 with DCT and the rev-matching downshifts are cool, shifts are very quick, and is fun to hammer on...
But, I could really see after a few weeks of only the DCT, I would crave a true manual. I've always driven manual cars, and nothing will be the same as having a man-pedal and true sifter...

The DCT is nice, but I prefer true manual all day. I don't care that the DCT is .2 seconds or whatever quicker than manual.... that is, unless you plan on tracking your car pretty hard/regularly... then it would prob be DCT to be able to concentrate on driving, rather than shifting.

I remember driving my wife's GTI with DCT for the first time. Pretty much sold me on the idea that my next car had to have one. I get/respect the guys that love a stick, but it really does change the character of the drive train for the better (for me). I traded a e60 M5 for my 335is and I love the car so far. Get a CPO with the longest warranty you can get would be my advice and then drive the crap out of it. Also, I wouldn't use these forums as a indicator for reliability without factoring in the e9x was a huge huge platform for tuners and so IMO you need to be able to bias accordingly.

Don't even hesitate. The car is a blast. DCT is a must. This coming from a lifetime manual guy. Don't miss it for a second.

Been in my 2011 IS for 6 months now and it's a pure beast bone stock. DCT is boring in regular drive mode but once you put the shifter left into sequential mode and hit the sport button it is nasty. The exhaust gets loud, the car engine brakes as soon as youlet off the gas and you hear burbling sound out of the exhaust which is awesome. The acceleration in this mode can only be described as one category, brutal.

I had my 65 year old father drive it in sport+ mode and said ok gun it. He said holy sht be thought the front end was lifting. Seriously so far everyone I ever drove around said its the fastest they've ever accelerated.

So far only issue was a DCT transmission leak which according to the BMW tech is common in this and the M3. No other issues really

If you will be pulling close to 1G sideways you will appreciate DCT. Nothing is more annoying than want to shift but cannot relief your left foot from the dead pedal to operate the clutch due to the need to support yourself in high speed sweeping corners. The sports seats are good but they are not that good. To properly operate a manual car at speed in corners you'll need proper bucket seats and 5-6 point harness.
