Frozen gas tank door

Hi, so I was about to pump gas as I'm almost running empty, and the gas tank door (not the cap) seems to be frozen shut (I washed the cars a couple of days ago).

I have a habit of opening up all doors and trunk after washing and drying the car to avoid this, but forgot to do it to the gas door.

I tried prying it with a key wrapped in paper, no luck. I tried to pull the trunk cable as well. Had to give up lol

So how would you go about it? Spray some coin-wash warm pressurized water or blow dry the door at the garage? It's funny any way you look at it... I have to do it soon though, or else I will be out of gas haha

Thanks for sharing the laughter and hints.

Warm water should do it, in theory it should melt the frozen ice

The door is probably not frozen. Its most likely the locking pin that slides in and out upon locking/unlocking.

Happened to me too once. Lesson leaned, after washing the car, dry that area and blow air to push out any water.

All you can do is get some hot water in a cup and pour over it until you hear the pin retract. Car needs to be unlocked for it to retract.

Cheers

Use a heat gun or hair dryer back at home I guess.

There is also an emergency lid release in your trunk. Look on the passenger side above the tool kit and battery area and you should see a green circle of plastic. If you pull that it will retract the lock pin.

Hahaha thanks for the response guys!!
Feeling stupid lol

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I was at the police station arguing that no, I wasn't trying to expose myself to bypassers; I was just trying to get some warm liquid flowing to get my gas door unstuck. They understood, it is Canada after all.

Seriously though, I was afraid of pouring water (go figure, I was already scared of having broken the pin with my wrapped key prying technique) so I took a hair dryer and held it for around 30 seconds at the door gap, while locking/unlocking the car with the FOB.
At one point the door popped out on its own!

Thanks guys!
