E92 electrical issue?
Hello everyone
Have been trying to pinpoint some issues with my sister's 2009 328i xDrive Coupe. The stereo will not work properly. When you start the car, the screen is sometimes blank, then it may open up on its own. None of the buttons work or steering wheel buttons. The volume is stuck at a certain level-quite loud and on the same station. At the same time, her SOS light message is illuminated in the instrument display, between the speedometer and tachometer. In addition awhile ago, the gong was acting up, sounding differently and sometimes would randomly come on. The clock will also randomly reset to --:-- once in awhile. It is very nerve racking. The car has always been maintained the old school way. I am in the process of doing some maintenance on it now as well. My first thought was the battery may be aged. Ordered a new one from BMW and going to install and register this week. Something else that it may be ?? Thanks

Probably battery, even if its not, it is probably due for one soon and since it's your sisters car it might help her from getting stranded with a dead battery one day.
So how about some sexy pics of her........ the M3, not the sister. |

FYI
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...,d.cGU&cad=rja
http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...2&d=1260829447 IBS system can turn stuff off with a low battery . See IBS explanation in electrical pdf above. Clock resetting is a low battery or electrical interruption. Electronics on these can go crazy with a low voltage/current. When you start the car the alternator helps things out and the battery recovers for as long as the motor runs. Also I would check for water near the L7 amplifier or Hi Fi amp. You could try putting a charge on the battery to see if things improve as a troubleshooting step. Or measure the battery voltage in the morning . A good battery will measure 12.6 anything under 12.2 would be suspect this is not as a good as a load test. Also there is a glass eye on the original battery that indicates the condition or charge. Suggest you buy a BMW diagnostic setup such as BMWhat or BMWlogger. BMWhat is pretty cool it works with your smartphone and either Wireless OBD bluetooth dongle or cable . Theres a main fuse in the fuse box kinda like a 30amp or so. looks like a square. Id try replacing it as many people have including myself and it fixes a lot of problems. Id give you the part number but I'm not around the car.

Anybody use Autoenginuity??
Bought the kit with BMW pack as well as a new HP laptop for this and garage use(Mac guy). After installing, and trying to connect to the car, the screen says trying to read use? Basically it can't connect with the car, both on the 328i and my M3. Does the car have to actually be running? Doesn't seem to make sense?
