Experience with extended Gold Plan.
Hi guys!
Not sure if this is the correct place to post. Please bear with me. I searched a few threads but it doesnt seem to be as updated as about gold extended warranty plans. First of all, I have a 2011 335i sport. My warranty is about to be over so i am desperately in need of help of opinions regarding extended warranty plans. I been doing a little research about the gold extended plans for 3 additional years with 100k miles. The quote i got was $3720.00 (Which is rather steep but my car is in CA and has 46k miles) Do you guys think this plan is worth it? The gold plan doesnt include: -rubber seals -diagnosis might be extra charge of $175. -squeaks and rattles -cosmetics and trim pieces -and other minor stuff I know these cars have been on the fence about the water pump issue + HPFP issue ( not covered with the N55 engine) Please advise guys! and any recent quotes anybody got! TL: DR - Need advice on gold plan. Does it cover enough to warrant the $? Thank you. |

I was in the same position as you when my car had 45k miles and I decided to go with it, You never know what can go wrong with the car. I paid the money just to have the peace of mind, Which is what it pretty much comes down too. If you can afford to suddenly pay for something that out of nowhere happens I dont think you'll end up spending $3700, but who knows

I been talking to my SA. He did say that turbo cars are really a high gamble. He wasn't trying to upsell me or anything. He actually recommended me to go down to 70k miles extended. But he seen a ton of 335i in the shop. Every problem will be at least $1k repairs. That heavily weighted upon my decision. But the diagnosis fee of $175 (if it not related to warranty coverage you will be charge). Is a horrible part of this gold plan. |

OP, what is your location in CA? That price is way too high.
Which dealership quoted you this? PM me.

Yeah, For some reason when I was purchasing mine I wasn't told about this $175 fee. Something good to look into. However I did find a new SA who has been covering me on everything with no questions asked.

If 1 of the 3 problems is not gold plan covered. you still pay the $175 for that one problem and the repair bill. I believe that some stuff are definitely not covered under the gold plan -rubber seals , squeaks, rattles. and etc. |

So what would a reasonable expected price on the gold plan be? I was quoted the same price but for my 2011 328i w 16k miles. I feel like it should be less...

To me it sounds pay close to $4k now and keep paying after. If I was you I'd put $3k aside, invest in diagnostic tool and other tools and do repairs and maintenance myself.

You shouldn't buy any extended plan on a NA engine unless your car has been experiencing problems in the past. They're actually pretty damn reliable and most of the problems that pop up at 75k-80k miles such as ignition coils going bad are very, very easy to fix. I doubt your car would need $4ks worth of repairs in 3 years especially with such low mileage. Turbo'd cars are a bit more of a gamble. More moving parts and more chances of something going bad, but if the car has a history of being fine, then the warranty is pretty overkill, especially with that diagnostic fee. It's such a bullshit fee. That's enough to cover 2-3 hours of labor at a good shop already.

I bought the Gold Plan 7/100k for $2250 at BMW of Monrovia. I considered getting Platinum to cover the headlamps, audio, power door locks and mirrors, but I don't have nav, auto-high beams, nor comfort access, so I thought it wouldn't be worth the extra expense.

Damn, thats like $1500 less than I was quoted for the 7/70k gold. Can any BMW dealer sell you the warranty?
