Front plate - to be, or not to be?
NWers...any of you run without a front plate? If so, ever been pulled over/warned/ticketed for it?
My car is going to show up ANY FRICKIN' DAY now, and I keep going back and forth on the front plate. I'm a (in my opinion) good, responsible driver, but I don't want to give the authorities an excuse to pull me over. But I see so many other cars with no front plates in my area (Redmond/Kirkland/Bellevue) - I have to think they don't regularly enforce around here. And of course the car looks so much better without. Thoughts? -X- |

On my daily drivers, tow hook plate since it hurts me to drill holes into my cars. It looks funny off to the sides but it's the price you'll have to pay to keep the front end looking pretty without it on.
WSP is the worst, and then down south Lakewood, and Tacoma are money hungry. With 25-35k a year in miles my tickets add up.

I remember in 2012, I was pulled over back to back on the same day for not having my front plate. This was in Seattle. I had to get the tow hook plate.

I've had a 330ci and a 135i over the course of the last 10 years here in the Northwest. I have never been pulled over for no front plates. However, the 1 or 2 times a year where I got a parking ticket in Seattle the meter maid added a violation for no front plates. Totally annoying, but it is also just a fee that did not require any proof of fix. So I treat it as a cost of looking cool! lol!
Not sure if the M badge is a bigger magnet for the WSP but when my new M4 arrives I'm going to go front plateless at least for a while. maybe you can go first and let me know how it goes! Enjoy your new car! I'm still waiting to start production next week.... |

Thanks for the comments. I guess I'll see how it goes plate-less for a bit. I work in Bellevue, and every day I go for a walk at lunch, and every day I see many cars with no front plate. So, I'm hoping that bodes well for me!
Car should be here soon...this is the worst part of the wait (VPC black hole). -X- |

I have been driving with no front plates in WA for last 20 years. Never been pulled over or got a ticket for it.
I rarely would park my cars out on the street so that has never been a problem either. I heard that east side is much more pickier than downtown. However, once a Canadian border patrol gave me a hard time going into Canada for not having a front plate. So now, install the front plate with double sided type when driving up to Canada. Regardless, I am not drilling the bumper in any of my cars. Peace.

Didn't put my front plate on. First time doing this in Portland (new to the area, originally from Texas). No issues so far. Also see lot's of nice cars running without front plates, so feeling comfortable with it. I do watch the mirror closely every time I pass a cop on the side streets though to see if he reacts. And this is an area that pulled my wife over for still having Texas plates on with expired tags, so they obviously are keeping an eye out (read:bored).

I live in Wilsonville and have gone without front plate since getting the car in March. No problems yet. I also heard the same thing about downtown and parking on the street. I rarely go downtown so that hasn't been a problem. I refuse to drill holes in my bumper so I would rather pay the ticket anyway. Time will tell

I live in Beaverton (suburb of Portland) and have been without a front plate for 5 years. I have never had a police officer look twice. Once the car came back from European delivery I left the Euro plates on for a week. I drove by 7 cops and not a one looked.

As a follow up to starting this thread, I've now been driving for over 5 months with no front plate. (knock on wood!) I've never received so much as a second glance by any officer in the area. Granted, I almost never drive into Seattle - seems like they enforce it over there more than here on the east side.
