335is Drop
Hey guys,
Just picked up my first BMW about a week ago. Hopped right on in with the n54 and I am absolutely loving everything about the car, so far! Ordered some toys already as well. JB4, CP, DP, CAI & an oil catch can. Well now I am interested in lowering the car a tad. I have combed the forums looking for this information however I haven't exactly found the answer I am looking for. I am aiming to put the car on the Swift Spec-r springs and maybe even throwing in some koni yellows and I want to know what the expected drop is and if anyone has any pictures of this? Especially on the 335is. Also, wanting get the tires a bit more flush. I have the 19" is wheels and have absolutely no idea what kind of spacers I can potentially run with the intended drop without rubbing. Any help would be beyond greatly appreciated. Thank you, Peppers |

Welcome and congrats on the new ride! I have a twin! Looks like you have a lot of goodies coming your way!
My car is mostly stock but I did add spacers. I also have the 19" optional wheels. I originally had 15mm in the rear and it looked awesome and aggressive, too! Unfortunately, when I would hit dips in the road, I would hear the rear rub so I dialed back some. I now have 12mm back there with no rubbing. It looks pretty good and flush. I'm a little weary about dropping only because the rear tire is so close to the fender. A coilover setup would be ideal so you can dial back in the event you do rub. As for the front, I went with 10mm spacers. It sits flush. Anything more and it just sticks out too much, IMO. Up front, you can drop all day long...plenty of clearance. There an 'IS' specific thread where you may want post your question: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=413211 |

Thank you for the reply AlpineweissIS I appreciate it. That is all the info I needed. I'll investigate a coilover setup and see what I can make happen. Thank you for the link to the 'IS' specific thread as well. I'm sure this will help plenty. I'll also post there and see what feedback I can get.

I went with BMS 12mm in the front and IMHO it looks just right. The BMS 15mm spacers in the rear look good but rub on big bumps so I had to dial them back to a pair of 10mm (12mm still rubs for me in the rear). I have the 19" 313 wheels as well on NRF Hankook Ventus V12's in stock sizes.

15mm spacers front, 15 or 20mm rear. I have 15mm all around on my 313s, stock tire sizes, rolled rear fenders. Never rubs even with a full trunk.
Make sure you get shocks and springs if you're lowering it or it'll only be a matter of time before the ride quality goes to shit with bottoming out on every little bump. |

Congrats !
For consideration : ^ Everyone's suspension geometry is a bit different. Though there are general recommendations for proper spacer size with the OE wheels, I'd suggest measuring first to get the EXACT stance YOU want

Can you guys post some pics of y'alls cars and setup and recommendations. What is the expected drop with the Bilstein B12 kit? I'm just wanting to get rid of some of the wheel gap on the front. I think the back nearly sits perfect. May look around locally and get some quotes on rolling the fenders. I'd like to roll with 15mm. However if the 12mm works without the added hassle of having to roll the fenders and accomplishes the same look that may be the route I go with 12mm up front. I'll need to do some more research and see pictures to best help me decide. I appreciate your guys input! Thank you very much.

Ran 10mm up front and 12mm rear with 19" 313s and Dinan stage 2 suspension. No rub with stock run flats but had some rub with upsized PSS. Front rubbed on the oil cooler vents in the wheel wells on hard turns in reverse. Consider the Dinan springs as the drop is mellow and balanced the car well front and rear. Not a bad price also if you buy during one of their sales. Rear stayed flat and the front dropped 1/2-3/4". Car is definitely tighter, corners flatter with no crazy camber wear on the tires.

Well, It looks like I will be going with the Dinan Performance Springs with the Ride Quality and Handling Kit. It provides a .5" drop on the front which should eliminate the ugly wheel gap and a 0" drop on the rear. The rear already sits perfectly and has very minimal wheel gap.
Links to parts: Springs: http://dinancars.com/product/d100-04...ries&mid=1133/ Handling Kit: http://dinancars.com/product/d193-90...ries&mid=1133/ I suppose I can run this for now with the stock shocks and replace those down the line once they begin to wear. It's an 11 and I believe it still has all the OEM equipment from the factory. So by now its starting to age. However with the limited 30k miles on the vehicle they should have plenty of life left. All in due time I suppose. I also went ahead and ordered BMS spacers. 10mm for the front and 12mm for the rear. |
