The internet on bmw

Hello fellow bimmer member. I am a new member and I recently purchased a 435i convertible and I love the car. It feels great to own a bmw. I have lrecently beenresearching about the cars functions and it never ceases to amaze me as to what the idrive can do. Now the reason for my posting is that while I was watching some video on the idrive, it shows that it can browse the web. I got really excited to check that function out knowing that I have purchased the technology package with the new touchpad and when i went on the idrive and go to connect it does not have the internet option. I read all over the bimmerpost forum and no one seems to have the answer. I reside in united states and some people say that the function is not avaliable to americas. I dont know it that is true or not. Some say that it is but it requires a subscription. From what i know when you purchase the technology package it comes with a 3 year free online access which is why when i go to bmw online i have a 3g logo on the top left. I know the internet is slow and that my iphone 6 plus is quicker in every way but i thought that it would be cool to show people that this car is capable off. So it anyone you have a clear answer to why i dont have the internet button pla let me know thanks.

I believe you need an optional service on your BMW Connected subscription. Its not worth it since you already have that capability on your phone with a better screen and interface.

I would imagine as mentioned it's a seperate option even over there.

It's not really that good, bit like trying to use a smart TV without a keyboard and just the remote.

Only time you are likely to use it is parked up, your phone is faster and far simpler.

Showing someone a clunky car Internet is not that impressive.

The service included with the Tech package is for accessing information for POI searches and the like. An optional service is available that provides the capability to actually browse the web.

You have paid for the subscription when you bought the Tech package.
There are some internet searches you can do bmw connect. Yahoo, yelp, just check under bmw online screen.
Also be sure to have bmw genius service come to your home or work to go over it with you for free and pick their brain. It is included in purchase.

To activate the internet in your vehicle, you must subscribe to it by pressing the SOS button. Tell BMW Assist you would like to add internet to the vehicle. Pricing should be about $100/1yr or $250/3yr. What this option gets you is an internet browser built into your iDrive screen. The touchpad iDrive controller can be used as your mouse to browse the web. This feature can only be used while at a standstill.

All brand-new US-Spec BMW's equipped with option 609 running iDrive 4.2 (NBT) get BMW Online for 3 years as standard. BMW Online gives you a more basic restricted version of the internet. It supplies you with news articles, weather, fuel prices, Yelp! reviews, Wiki Local, etc. You will find this option under the ConnectedDrive Menu. BMW Online can be accessed while driving or at a standstill. BMW Online also provides widgets to place in your split-screen as well as your subscription to ARTTI (advanced real time traffic information) which is updated every 3 minutes as opposed to every 15 minutes with RTTI (real time traffic information). And I forgot to mention, it also allows you to voice-command into the iDrive POI-Online Search by voice, which will search google for destinations.

Hope this clears things up. Correct me if I am wrong on any of this information and feel free to add to it.

You must use BMW Assist. Press that SOS button and subscribe to Internet. Last time I called and checked on pricing, it was $100/yr. or $250/3yrs.

Slightly off-topic but don't you find it hilarious some automakers are trying to market/sell the idea of the car featuring a WiFi hotspot when it's a feature that most smartphones are capable of?
