Softening the blow of potholes
I live in the Boston area and every year I seem to dent or crack a front rim. I'm in the market for wheels/tires for the winter and currently have 18s om my 335i xdrive. Am I correct in assuming that if I buy 17" wheels with 225/45/17 tires, the tires will absorb more of the blow than 18" tires? Sorry for such a basic question...

The bigger profile tire the more cushion and less road noise you get.
225/45/17 --> 45 is the profile number, which can be determine as 225 wide *.45% = 101.25mm in height. If I remember correctly, your 18's should be in the 40 profile. |
