Dealer Markup

Any news about dealer markup? My CA just told me that his dealer will have $20,000 markup on the new M3. This will make the M3 price close to $90k loaded. Unless they're out of their fcking minds, they should not make the M3 more expensive than the M5 ($82.9k loaded) out of the door.

I have it written down on my deposit slip that the car will be sold at MSRP, and that I am #4 on the list. I can hold them to the former, but have no way of holding them to the latter really. Meaning, the dealer can slip people in ahead of me if they are willing to pay more, and I wouldn't know about it.

Within $5000 markup, some people may do it, not me tho. More than that, you may want to look at the alternatives: GT-R, RS5, 911 or even M5 whatever. I'm okay to wait for a year.

$72k loaded + $5k markup = $77k. More than this, you should consider M5 at $82.9k if you can afford it.

There might be the odd rich college kid who wants this car right now and right there, and ends up paying the extra $20k. I don't know how many of those people will be around though.

It's foolish to pay markup for this car unless you really have money to burn and had to have the car asap at the nearest and most convenient dealer.

California sucks in that regard, I know. I used to live in San Diego and I remember all the BS on dealer markups when I used to shop for cars in the area including LA and OC.

Where I currently am, hardly any of the dealers do mark-ups or as some call it "market adjustments". I've noticed maybe 1 or 2 out of 10 in the Chicago area that do this, and those are mostly the ones near downtown.

Some of you might want to look into buying from a dealer out of state where the demand is possibly lower, and can guarantee every customer MSRP on an M3. Even if you eat the extra cost to ship it across country in a covered trailer, it's sure to be a lot better than the $5k-$20k markups that are common when a hot new M or RS or AMG model comes along.
