2 headlight e90 questions

Picked up a 2007 e90 328i a few weeks ago. I have the xenons with auto leveling, which you can see at start up. I have read that they should steer as well when in Auto position. I do not see them at any speed or steering angle, turn left or right. Is there a way to tell that I do have it? Am I guessing wrong that just because I have HID and auto level they should be adaptive as well? I have no adaptive steering codes...( xenon projector and DRL is non fluted, you can see the bulb and reflector clearly )

My 2nd question is, at start up the left one blinks 4 times in a 3 second interval... every time... can set your watch to it. Happens even if the bulb is still "hot" after turning them off then on. I then get a Lamp issue indicator on the dash. Work great after that...

If I could also ask, I know what LCI is, but is there a post on what it means/differences? What is mine? pre LCI or after?

You can have auto leveling without ahl. The easiest way to tell is by looking at the lens closest to the grill. If you have ahl it wil have a white cover. If you do not have ahl the inside lens is black and nonfunctional.

Your car is prelci if it is the one in the photo. 08 and earlier= prelci, 09 and later is lci. You can also tell by looking at the headlights, taillight, or grills.

Actually I'm not sure how you can tell if prelci headlights are adaptive or not. I forgot prelci uses the inside halogen light when you flash your high beams. On LCI headlights the inside light is the cornering light if they are adaptive otherwise it is blank. Sorry for the confusion hopefully someone else can clarify.

If they don`t move sideways when starting the car, you don`t have adaptive lights, just normal bi-xenon.
power on test of the headlightmotors will check this. non adaptive is vertical, adaptive is horizontally.

As for the flashing, sounds like the bulb or the ballast is about to say byebye
Are the color between left and right matching? (bad bulb turns purple/red..)

Somehow this sounds wrong. When my pre-lci car does a headlight "motor check" at start, it moves only up and down and they definitely ARE adaptive.

I don't know why I feel like the headlights actually say whether they are or not. Take a look next to the AE ring on the silver finish of the headlight. I know there is usually some type of writing there.

There are 2 kinds of xenon headlights. Adaptive headlights and dynamic adaptive headlights.

The adaptive headlights, are basically stock xenon lights, they will level up and down on startup and while driving up and down hills.

The dynamic adaptive headlights will level up and down and also will turn with your steering wheel left and right. If I am not mistaken you have the adaptive headlights in your car, but if not you can check by looking at the writing on the side of the xenon lightbulb the first one says adaptive xenon and the second one says BMW dynamic xenon

ok so in that case the lights should move even while you are standing. Quick question, when you engage your car in reverse, do your inner lights (high beams) or the fog lights turn on? If neither do, there are a few test that you could do to see if the option has been disabled by coding or hardware. But first, how much do you know about your car.. I mean... did the previous owner "mod" the crap out of it? or was it owned by a sweet old lady that went form point A to point B?

Could you also post a picture of your warning sign on the dashboard?

if this is the warning sign, the AHL module is damaged. and you need to replace it.

1. I've never seen a pre-LCI that has any lights come on during reverse. I've only ever seen it as an LCI function. Not sure if its something that can be coded since the headlights are pretty different. (If I'm not mistaken).

2. I've been able to keep my car stationary and see the lights move side to side with the steering wheel. It's not a BIG movement and maybe thats what you are looking for. Its a very sutble move side to side. Maybe your headlights need to be adjusted/aligned?

3. If everything is coming on but you're still getting those errors maybe its a voltage issue? Ballast really might just be going out. Though when my own went out only error I got was "Passenger side low beam malfunction".

Im in no way a pro, but maybe some of that will help you in the right direction!

yeah I asked if they went on while in reverse to see which module would he had installed, FRM2 and 3 have that option enabled and you can enabled it through coding as well (I did that in my old car). the headlights are the same, its the wiring that changes. And I think you are right, might be a voltage issue. This sounds very strange to me. Lets see that video to try to figure it out what the blinking thing is.
