M3 Invoice Price (my estimates)

E90 M3: $54,575 MSRP
E70 X5 4.8i: $54,500 MSRP
E70 X5 4.8i: $50,140 Invoice (Edmunds)
E90 M3: ~$50,200 Invoice (est.)

E92 M3: $57,275 MSRP
E70 X5 4.8i + ZPP: $57,150 MSRP
E70 X5 4.8i + ZPP: $52,550 Invoice (Edmunds)
E92 M3: ~$52,600 Invoice (est.)

Just estimates, don't sue me if they are wrong.

You could do this a million other ways too, especially if you average the percentage difference between MSRP and Invoice over all BMW models. Or maybe you could just do M models too (not sure if it'd matter). But I figure this is probably almost as good and I am lazy.

Now as for why you'd need this? Well you might not, at least not for a while. But there will come a time when its possible to buy an M3 under MSRP, so this might be handy then. Course, we'll have real invoice by then, but hey, I was bored.

M comparison then

2008 M5:
MSRP:$82,900
Invoice: $76,270
Mark-up: 8.7%

If we apply the same mark-up to the E92 M3:
MSRP: $56500
Invoice: $51978

Which is $150 more than mkoesel's figure after adjusting for the delivery charge (he included that) to which the mark-up does not apply. Close enough I'd say.

So, even when discounts become available, they won't be much more than $1500 or so since the dealer is only making $4500, provided there aren't any manufacturer's incentives, or you are not buying a previous year's model sitting on a lot, but with this kind of pricing I doubt you'll see that happen often.

By the way, for the 911S, the mark-up is around 14.5%, so $5k-$7k discounts are possible.

Somehow we need to let the owner (or at least sales mngr.) of Newbold know how good of a job Tim is doing, going above and beyond any other CA I've ever worked with...

Most do not understand the importance of good communication. I may have to write a letter after delivery.

Thanks Tim!

+1

Good point on communication as well. It is very relevant.
Like I said in the other thread. Tim called me at work in the morning with the all the pricing. Very cool!

I'll drop some hints to the sales manager. I tend to go in every couple of weeks.

I believe invoice is definitely less. More around $7-9k off msrp range! ... Someday these won't sell for MSRP and how could they make any money???

Um, no way.

With factory discounts, and the fact that invoice is not what the dealerships pay to begin with.
