e90 550 rpm vibrating at idle

In park or in drive when car gets to normal running temperature there is a vibration throughout the car. Nothing like misfiring because I have had that before and that is a lot more shaking.

Idles at ~550 rpms

Car is e90 N52 with 96k miles.

New air filter and cleaned mass air flow sensor.

New spark plugs and coils at 80k.

i have the same thing on my 328xi. 550rpm on idel. i have new sparks, air filter and cleaned my MAF sensor as well. did a fuel injector cleaner(lucus) and it helped a bit. car pulls fairly strong but i still get the vibration.

im also interested in what other people have to say. been trying to figure this out for a year but no change. the last thing is injectors. hoping for my engine to throw a code so my warranty would pick up the tab.

Changing the vanos solenoid at high mileage rids the car of hard idle and vibration. If this has never been done on your cars then that could be your culprit.

Bad motor mounts made my 2006 325i vibrate at idle. New mounts fixed it right up.

I cleaned my solenoid this fall and nothing changed. might be motor mounts.

Is this something that can be tested for by a mechanic to see if they are bad? or do you just changing them at a certain mileage?

also what is the approx cost for this from an indy mechanic?

Changing a bad coil made my idle perfect. Also, fuel injector cleaners.

I believe you test motor mounts by sitting in the car in Park while stepping on the gas a few times to see how much play there is in the engine. Maybe you can look at a friends and compare. If you car engine does have more play then more than likely it is the mounts.

cleaned out both VANOS realy well and seems to minimize the vibration but still there. hard to to describe but I can watch RPM surge up and down just slightly. I can hear and feel the surge at same time.

can I clean the VANOS out better with a cleaner?

should I just get new ones?

From what I've read on it, might as well get new ones for best results. Cleaned mine and it sort of helped-but only for a few days. Bentley states replacement is no longer necessary after a software update that makes them automatically clean, but I haven't seen anything beyond that.

Isn't 550RPM a bit on the low side? I have an N51, but after warmup, the engine idles at 650RPM.
