DIY: Create Your Own Splitter
I'm a very DIY guy and love trying new things purely just to learn and the satisfaction at the end of viewing your own hard work, and recently refurbed a set of wheels myself, took 4 weekends and cost as much as a proper refurb but was thoroughly worth it in my eyes.
For a while I've wanted to create my own splitter, and winters here now, have some free time on my hands and I've thought the time is now. Research is still ongoing but il probably be going down the line of a flexible plastic, which is tough and flexible enough to withstand day to say impacts but not flimsy enough that it cracks at first impact. I thought about fibreglass or CF around a solid centre but it seems too messy of a job and the cost does rack up if you mess it. Il be updating this as I go along and eventually will hopefully make a DIY but for starts does anyone have a spare splitter or a splitter that's not currently on their car and would be able to provide front on, side on, and top down photos of it along with approximate measurements so I can start sourcing correct amounts of material. If anyone's tried this or has any advice I welcome it!

If I do go down the plastics route e.g. acrylic or high impact preparations itl be good old fashioned hand work.
Shaping in terms of the shape in the 2D plane will be done by cutting filing and sanding down by hand. Any curves in the vertical plane will be probably be done via heat application via heat gun till the plastics pliable and then curved shapes and blocks will be used to mould curves around. Il be using a relatively thick piece of plastic so not too sure how pliable it will be to moulding so my backup is to actually use additional pieces of plastic and build any extreme bits and bond them on. I'm sticking to a very simple design initially, once someone's gets me rough sizes and pics il sketch up a mock |

Il probably be doing a spin on the hamann lip as opposed to an arkym style one due to complexity of the latter, as it's the first time venturing into this and I'll essentially be making it up as I go along

I have also made one using easily obtainable urethane sheets. I then took a cardboard template to a sign writers and they cut it using a drill plotter. Cost me around £60. I do not have it fitted and more as i kept hitting it on speed bumps. But it looked the part. Ill dig it out and get some pics up when i get a chance.

I made my own as well. Only made it out of plywood and never found a good source for the plastic to finish it off. I was looking at ABS plastic got mine.
with regards to the dimensions, I got the width of the car off Wikipedia haha, then just measured from the front wheel arch to just past the very front of the bumper. Seem to remember using a 2x0.6m sheet but I'm not 100% |

Yep, SE bumper with front corner add ons as well.
The one I made was plywood, coated in a PVA based sealant for a few coats and then paint gloss back exterior paint. Turned out surprisingly good but would be better in some sort of plastic. Never worked with it properly at home so not sure how well curving the sides up would be, I assume if you measure twice, fold once it shouldn't be too bad haha. |

Bump i've considered making my own front splitter im hands on and hate paying through the nose for stuff i can do myself, Plywood sounds like a good start as mentioned, but long term im not sure how long it would last......
