BMW performance parking brake handle install with pictures
After spending a lot on the car, I wasn't sure I would put money in accessories so soon but I decided to start small with the parking brake handle. I thought the stock handle and gaiter were too plain, and the stitching in black didn't even match the white stitching on my seats.

I bought the handle from getBMWparts.com. (Tischer BMW) Originally, I received an email that they were back ordered from Germany and wouldn't arrive until mid-December, but I was surprised a couple days later when I got a shipping confirmation
I couldn't find any thread which said exactly how to get the old handle off, but upon looking at the new piece, you can see how it is held in place. Here are some pictures which show the 7 tabs holding it in place as well as the part number. You can see part of the logo which reads "Alcantara." Only brand-name stuff for BMW! |

The old handle gaiter is held in only with the clips. I was able to lift the right rear clip out with finger pressure, then I used rubber padding to rest a screwdriver against the back edge near the armrest and push forward to release the left rear tab. Once the rear tabs are loose, it is easy to pinch the middle tabs together while sliding back to release the front tab.
There is no need to cut the zip-tie shown. Once the gaiter is loose, pull it up like taking a sock inside out to reveal the base of the handle. The grooves on the inside of the handle are a friction fit with the metal parking brake handle. Pull hard and it will pop right off. Make sure you don't bang your hands on the dash when it comes off! |

thanks for the pics. Not sure if I like the tricolor stitching against the white/gray stitching in the seats and armrest but I really like the handle. I'll have to see if anyone sells the handle only.
Also, why is your Idrive trim piece silver? I thought that was CF?
