BMW i remote app USA

I just downloaded the app from itunes store.
It works, quite fun, but not everything. data overload, however one thing still concerns me with 100% charge, electric range shows only 15miles with outside temperature 74 F.
What range have others found with 100% charge ?
I might join the community feature after I check security, anybody else there ?

It also bases it on your driving habits. "Sportier" driving or less efficient areas (I'm in a hilly/mountainous area) bring the estimated range down as well. When I was on vacation the average went up because I was mostly driving at leisurely pace on a beach island, low speeds, gradual acceleration, etc.

I typically show 14-16 miles after a full charge. I get the same result whether at home at 110 or at dealer charging station.

Interesting, the specification calls for 18 + on full charge, never seen it.

That's my concern as well. When I had my dealer's demo car for a few days, when I charged it up it only showed 15 miles range when fully charged. Very disappointing.
N.B. Temp outside was c. 13 dec C (55F).
I'm still not 100% sure if the electric range is determined by previous driving styles (like the estimated overall range is) and/or whether the range is dependant on outside temperature(?)

That's interesting to know. The question is, is that down to the trip computer calculating the estimated max. electric driving range based on how you have previously driven the car, or is that the absolute maximum mileage it can get e.g. due to outside temperatures reducing the battery's efficiency.

Range is effected by a number of factors. As I found out this morning, cold batteries reduce the range. But, the real range is mostly effected by speed, amount of regenerative braking, coasting and use of air-conditioning. I can actually get 20 miles in comfort mode simply by turning off the AC and driving around town. Frequent stop signs and stop lights keeps the regen going.

Back to the cold - the battery regen is about 50% effective until everything gets warmed up.

Just picked mine up this morning. At full charge mine said 22 miles and 299 range. (Dealer topped up the gas tank.) I took it out for a spin and try as I might I was unable to run it solely on electricity. So I punched it. It's pretty quick.

I am now recharging it and will report what the range is this time around.

I sure don't much like falling in and falling out of the car. There doesn't seem to be a graceful way to get in or out.

But it's very nice. So far no one has looked twice. Which is fine with me.

That's pretty much what I can see as well in the heated garage. Once outside (I'm in Sweden) it's now roughly 5C/40F and the temperature seem to have a big impact on electric range. I'm sure it's warmer over there but... The temperature does effect the range.

I tend to use the butt-first-approach when getting in and the exact opposite (feet first) when getting out. Feels pretty easy and almost, yeah almost, graceful.

Yeah, butt-first, sit, rotate hips pulling legs in and reversing that process is the most "elegant" method of ingress/egress.

Absolutely! First butt down, then feet up, shake your boots in the air to remove dirt, then knees to your chest, 90 degree turn and you are in.

Have you ever tried to enter Porsche 918? That's real sport, basically the same, but you have to be almost professional gymnast to get you knees so flexed that expensive CF sill won't get scratched while doing the same 90 degree turn...

I drove the car a lot over the weekend, lots of short trips. Running on electric only was problematic as I live in the Santa Monica mountains. On the flat I bet I could go 15-18 miles on electric only. Driving the car to my dealer today (6.2 miles away according to my iPhone app) consumed 49% of my electricity. And the app is now telling me I have anywhere from 15 to 17 miles on electric only.

Since I have two 650s to drive and will be meeting with clients and other lawyers this week (and do not want them to see me falling out of the car), I've let the dealer display the car in its showroom until this weekend. (It got me a super detailing, something the dealer didn't do for the PDI because I was looking over everyone's shoulders.)

As for getting in and out, I've started to master it, but it's still very ungainly. That may come from being a bit of a geezer.

In terms of driving impressions, I'll let my 17 year old daughter give you hers -- it's got a spacious cabin (easy for her to get in), as large as her X1 or the 6ers that she also drives, but it feels very small. It drives a lot like our recent 2010 Z4 3.5 but the steering is even lighter. (Getting in the passenger seat when my daughter drove it was a lot easier than getting into the driver's seat. The steering wheel gets in the way.)

My daughter has driven a Tesla S85 a lot (one of her high school classmates has one but doesn't like to drive) and my daughter prefers the i8 driving experience and its styling. She wanted to take the car to the mall and hang out. There I said "no."

I am watching the charging on my car at the dealership on my iPhone app. It says the doors are locked, the windows closed but the trunk is open and the side lights are on. It's being trickle charged with my portable charger.
