Why is there no M4 GC?
I'm not sure if this has been answered already but I was curious why there is no M4 GC. They have the M6 GC so I figured there would be one for the M4.
If anyone has any photoshop pics I'd be interested in seeing them.

Posted before, a rendering based on the concept. I think we will see an M variant soon.

My sources at BMW NA said they M4 GC didn't happen because you have an M3 w/ CF roof so there really is no market for the M4 GC which would almost be identical M3.

I've read speculation about it being due to the fact that the required flare on the rear fender would be too difficult to pull off. Though when you look at the M3 and what they did with so little space between the door and fender, I don't know if I really buy it.
I guess it would probably require too many unique parts to justify the small number of sales. Though, if 4 GC sales are high enough, I think it might happen next generation. Here's one official response: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=973551 Any M4 Gran Coupe coming? We have investigated that for a long time, but in our opinion the M4 coupe and M3 sedan spread the models/products wider. The coupe and gran coupe look similar and speak to the same customer. With a real 4 door sedan (M3) we have a wider product. Another reason is the trunk lid on the gran coupe because of the rigidity of the body and the weight, it's not that suitable for an M car. Lots of past discussion on this, by the way: https://www.google.com/search?q=gran...bimmerpost.com |

The main reason for the M6GC is profit margin. The M6 lineup is hugely more expemsive than the M5. Not so with the M3 and M4, pretty much the same price. Making another 4-door with little if any extra profit would just cannabalize on whichever car becomes most popular to no gain. Simply bad business.

Thanks for the replies. I am aware the M3 exists, but one can also argue there's no point of a 4 GC when the f30 already exists.
It would definitely be cool to see one in the future though.

I think BMW would gain better return on investment if they spent the $$$ on developing a 4GC on adding AWD as an option. Don't get me wrong I don't want and AWD M3 for myself but I think it would attract a new segment of buyers to the M3 and we also see some of the current buyers complaining about lack of traction and oversteer. Is it a similar investment? I don't know, maybe an AWD design and production costs are much higher than those for a 4GC.

The Grand Coupe is what the 3 should have looked like to start. I think both models look great, but the GC looks sleeker and sportier.
The 6 GC looks a good deal different than the 5 series does. I just don't think there is a enough differentiation between the regular 3 and the 3 GC to necessitate another model. All that being said, the frameless doors and hatchback design are great.

I would have bought one if they offered one, but alas they did not and will not. Oh well!

GC being an elaborate answer to a question that few have asked. No M3/M4GC means that GC dreaming has gotten run over by the reality of disappointing GC sales. a |

There is no such thing as a 3GC, so it make sense that the sales are disappointing. It's hard to sell something that doesn't exist.
