you would have to be able to depress the brake pedal remotely also since part of the start sequence.

Or the clutch pedal in a 6MT. But can't that be coded out?

I think the only items that can be changed by coding are items that are optionally allowed in other countries, and seems no one is talking about that one yet.

Not 100% sure about this, but I believe the BMW Remote app allows you to set the HVAC, and without the engine running (naturally, since it can't start the engine). You could download and give it a try.

Was showing my M4 to my friend, he was amazed to say the least, then we went over to his new Jeep Cherokee, and he said, "ya, but can you do this" he started it from his key fob, lol.

I have also heard that with the BMW computers and their time outs that it's pretty difficult and not recommended to try a remote start system. I live in MN so I hear ya OP, but just get in and drive and it warms up pretty quick, especially with heated seats and steering wheel

The app? It's definitely available in the US - I have it on my phone. I just checked it out and it has the option for "Auxiliary Ventilation", but I don't see the ability to set a temperature. The feature list includes "Climate Control", including for the U.S. not sure if that applies to the F3x/F8x or what.

Webasto is what you guys mean? At least here in Europe it has been around for ages. You can remotely start the vehicle, without actually starting the engine and some systems heat only the engine and some do both - interior and engine. The system uses gas from the vehicles gas tank. You can install a Webasto or almost all manufacturers offer it as an option "Auxialary Heating" it is the correct word I suppose.

You have to depress the brake pedal in my Infiniti but it also comes with remote start. When you enter the car after a remote start, it does force you to press the pedal again and hit the ignition button once it confirms the key is within the vehicle. I guess this is a safety procedure to ensure your neighbor doesn't take off in your car after you start it from the kitchen!

The manual for my 2003 911 Turbo stated to drive immediately and not let the car idle to warm up. I wonder if this is also BMW's philosophy, which may explain why they don't offer remote start.

My Parents had the local MB dealer install remote start on their s550 and gl550. Both require the brake pedal to be depressed as part of the start up sequence so I'm sure there's a work around.
My S4's manual also said to just start up and drive after the RPMs dropped. |
