speed cameras
Hi guys, can you advise me what device do you use for speed cameras(all kinds) detection?
I was using the iphone tomtom app untill now, but Im getting a CIC retrofitted this weekend and it will look bizarre to have the nice satnav screen running and then my iphone just below. |

Currently use the "Road Angel Gem Plus". Forget the laser detector on this device as it is useless. Use it for the GPS fixed cameras and Camera vans. I have it wired in to operate with car ignition.
Would i recommend it....YES, i do some drivingaround UK and it has warned me about camera's that i did not know where there and so saved me points and more likely my licence. So that has to be worth it Subscription is required but DB seems to be uptodate! Used to use the POGO, but that has been discontinued. This was really really good device. If you actually want a reliable "Laser Detector" then these are to the best of my knowledge, illegal in the UK, but are available. They will be expensive as they have to be fitted covertly and operate as Garage Door Openers. I am sure more knowledgeable people in this dark art will offer more/better advice on these devices

What he said I use the Road Angel Gem Plus too and completely agree, great bit of kit although quite expensive if you want to keep it updated with the subscription constantly. Quote:

I don't care what anybody says, but everyone "Speeds". I am not talking about the P3nis Brain who does 140+ on the motorway or 80 in a school zone 30, but everyone has done 34 in a 30 or 56 in a 50 and so on and so on. These detectors are designed to warn us of our speed and where the cameras are. I particularly like the Average speed camera detection. M6, M1, and most of the major MW have seriously long road works where these cameras are in force. The speed Angel calculates your average speed tween each camera and indeed the whole set of cameras, so if you have wandered over the 50 speed it will tell you what your actual average speed is so you can slow down safely to get under the 50 average. Brilliant!

Exactly.
I've had every detector and laser/radar detector (not illegal BTW in the UK) and I think they're a pain in the arse. They're dangerous with their continual false alerts etc in my opinion. If you want a reliable fixed/average camera detector, I've found the Tom Tom database to be really accurate. Do some research into laser & radar. The only way to stop being detected is to actually jam the incoming signal. They are illegal and some are cleverly disguised as 'electronic garage door openers' if you feel the need ...... |

true that tomtom is very reliable..I have been using it for over a year and not a single offence however my retrofit is happening very soon and time is up for iphone tomtom...
I have to admit that Im disappointed that the CIC doesnt have the warning...I drove rented cars (i.e Volvo ), and it was warning me before approaching a speed camera |

V4 E indiscreet, sits on my dash right side of steering wheel and unnoticed, until a camera or speed trap approaches then it lets out merry hell... and I slow down |

If you do get hold of something that will block a laser camera, they will certainly do you for it if they catch you, they are illegal.
Any that say they can detect a laser are worthless. As soon as they detect it you are caught. It's not like the old radar guns that would bounce radar around so enable easy detection, a laser is pointed straight at you. early warning systems of potential speed traps and camera zones are best. |

For several years now Ive subscribed to PocketGPSWorld's CamerAlert for my Android phones.
Not that I go mad and speed everywhere but I know a few people who have got caught on camera when they didnt realise they were just over the limit and were not intentionally speeding - saves a load of potential hassle and in my view worth the subscription. I cant be bothered with BMW's out-of-date Sat Nav and use either Waze or Google Maps on the phone so having the CamerAlert on too is no big deal.
