Proper coolant bleed procedure?

I just replaced the water pump and thermostat and need to bleed my cooling system. I've been reading up on doing the automatic bleed procedure on my N54 E90 335i and have found conflicting information. Are the reservoir cap and bleeder screw supposed to be open or closed?

The rest of the procedure seems straightforward.

Thanks

Both are supposed to be closed.

-Close cap
-Close bleed screw
-Turn on ignition - engine start w/o foot on clutch/brake
-Set HVAC to max temp (84)
-Set HVAC fan to lowest speed
-Hold gas pedal down for 10 seconds
-The WP will run for 12 minutes
-When finished, open cap and top off as necessary
