Autocrossing a 228 - how fast?

I thought this might be interesting for some of you as I decided to put my unmolested 228i with steptronic(coughDealerScrewedUp) up against a bunch of porches and finely fettled Japanese cars to see how she would do.
It turns out, she did pretty darn good!
I got a lot of understeer and oversteer, mainly due to the skinny tyres on the non-sport 228i. But I beat some interesting rivals..

Given that I was considering a few of these cars before choosing the 2Series, I thought this was an interesting comparison. Obviously, there's a lot of skill involved, so it's not exactly a clean cut deal. And a lot of these cars were stripped and prepped, but for a rank amateur, the car did great!

In theory you should have an advantage on the straights with the smaller tires. Less surface friction should make it a touch quicker, but in the corners is where the bigger tires are more advantageous. Good job! I have a base too and wondered if it would do ok in an auto-x despite not having all the track upgrades. Nice to know it is still a pretty capable car out of the box

How could you let the "Miata of Joy" beat you?

For shame...
