F15 M Sport Key??????
Has anyone purchase a F15 M sport key fob and blank key yet?
A BMW coder suggested I buy one and replace the board with the one from my spare key...has anyone tried this? If this is not possible: 1) Can the M Sport key be "programmed" by holding it next to the steering column on startup, just like our regular M4 keys? It uses the same 434MHz frequency. 2) If not, could I purchase the F15 BDC + fob, etc., and replace my BDC without negatively affecting any other features, to "force" the car to accept the new key? This question assumes that it may be necessary to have a specific BDC for a specific key to be compatible. 3) Finally, if neither of the above, is it possible that keys and BDCs are engine-specific? I saw one site that stated the F15 BDC part name with the engine type. I have already contacted three coding/nav upgrade companies who specialize in BMWs, and none of them have yet received this request, so that haven't done any research. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! Please see attached pic for the key I'd like to purchase... |

I also own an F15 X5 M Sport and it honestly is one of the only things I want for the M4.
This key is so awesome and the actual M car has that big nugget key which sucks. |

^^correct, almost impossible to get a BMW key that isn't vin attached. I would think its a big no no for BMW. They can't risk sending out blank keys that people could potentially code and break into cars. Just a guess but I can check later today with our guys in parts

I called 2 dealers and they both said they send the order to BMW with your VIN. The fob is VIN specific and BMW will send you the current F8X fob.
I do not see why BMW couldn't make an exception. I do not think it is impossible but we would need someone with some contacts in Munich. My thoughts are: BMW will hear our plea, change the fob for 2016, then we can order the updated fob. |

I would say your best bet is to swap the internals of the keys.
that being said the X5 key is by far one of the sexiest keys I have held I wish it would become standard. |

That was the only real thing that annoyed me when I got the M4. The key is hideous. Nothing at all cool or nice about it. Looks like any other £15k car key, not like a key you would expect on a £65k car!! Poor show BMW!!

I posted this a while ago in the other key fob thread but here you go:
ok here is how it works. When you order a key you must present your license and your vin (have to match obv) you DO NOT need to have the vehicle present. Then the dealer orders the key from BMW which comes ALREADY programmed to that specific vehicle. which then is handed to the customer. You can not buy a key that is un programmed. Now as far as making it work on other cars. The keys are somehow (I dont know how) unable to be re programmed to any other vehicle once its cut form BMW. hope that helps Now you may be able to crack the fob open and take the guts and place them in the f8x fob and glue the key back closed but then again I bet the guts are a different size etc.. and would be a huge hassle IMO

I would imagine BMW makes it near to impossible to swap keys between cars for various reason but def interested to see what happens if you try. Key prob will run you almost 300 bucks I'm sure. A lot of money to take a chance IMO
